My impression is that revenue-sharing and NIL are being talked about as if the same thing. Even though there's now some sort of clearing house for NIL deals, I think they are still private sector deals unconnected to the school, and cannot be made upon the contingency of the athlete actually playing or even attending the school in question. If that's still the case, the school releasing a player is entirely unrelated to any NIL deals or $$ therein. The school is not bound by NIL contracts between a commercial entity and a player.I wonder what the repercussions are with NIL? Before the coach could just release a guy, but with NIL there may be advances that need to be returned etc... I would be very curious to know what sort of terms there are in these contracts and how they would play out with a situation like this one.
Unbelievable comment! Right, it is all Tennessee's fault. They are to blame and could have side-stepped the entire situation! A 17 year old kid was "forced" into signing a document that he did not have to sign, was promised NIL money, knowing if he did not sign it his entire futured would be destroyed by his mother. Poor kid, how could Tennessee do something so nefarious to this little angel! Despicable I say despicable! Please put the pipe down.Unless new info has surfaced, sounds like his mother (and perhaps brother) forced him here. If that's the case, he's not at fault - nor "toxic" - and I question why Heupel even signed him. Rescinding the offer would have side-stepped this.
Sure buddy. That’s a real “unbelievable” comment. Dude laid down straight facts:Unbelievable comment! Right, it is all Tennessee's fault. Never waste an opportunity to be blindly indignant, eh?Unbelievable comment! Right, it is all Tennessee's fault. They are to blame and could have side-stepped the entire situation! Sure, Tennessee would deliberately sign a guy knowing he does not want to sign, just to create this drama with an immature kid! Tennessee is at fault! And we know it's all true because the media reports it. You are one gullible person. lol. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! On second thought just put it down! lolNever waste an opportunity to be blindly indignant, eh?
Bey’s release request confirms what we already knew; he didn’t want to be at UT to begin with. Now, if everyone in media was reporting that, how is it possible that Heupel didn’t know? And why would you want to go ahead and sign the guy knowing that?
When considered, mine is a perfectly rational - believable - comment. Anyone with an inkling of what occurred saw this coming. The fault is primarily with his family members and himself, but yes, TN isn’t an innocent party here and has no room to cry or make out like the young fellow is the bad guy. He literally had a flashing sign over his head saying “Not My Choice”.
Put a band-aid on it, tenderfoot.
IIRC, his mother and older brother favored Tennessee and the locker room culture. Bey wanted to play at Ohio State for his own reasons, which I don't think were ever discussed. His mother refused to sign his papers for Ohio State and I think in a somewhat desperate moment, Bey reached out to TN about re-committing and signing. My guess is he didn't go into detail with CJH about his reasons or the situation. The story about his mom forging the signature was incorrect, just a story run with by Ohio State reporters. I think after all the drama settled on signing day, someone advised him that he could ask for a release and sign for himself on his 18th birthday, 12/24/25. As far as the family drama, not interested. I don't think he is toxic or pulled a fast one on TN. I can imagine it is a great situation for him as far as family support goes. I imagine CJH will let him out of his LOI and wish him well. I say good luck and I hope his choice turns out well. No ill will towards a 17 year old kid in an unfortunate situation.Unless new info has surfaced, sounds like his mother (and perhaps brother) forced him here. If that's the case, he's not at fault - nor "toxic" - and I question why Heupel even signed him. Rescinding the offer would have side-stepped this.
Not so fast. I've seen reports that OSU interfered with our player after he signed. I don't think we should reward their misconduct or do anything that helps OSU. Somebody will say Bey is caught in the middle. I am sorry that he put himself there, but that is what he did.Best for all parties involved to release him and everyone move on.
