With Chaz Green now apparently rebuffing the alma mater of both parents (Tennessee), it reminds me of another great high school player named Jeff Dunn (quarterback) whose parents attended UT, but signed with Alabama a couple decades ago.

Which brings up a hypothetical question; If Peyton Manning and his wife raise a football progedy, what are the odds of him attending UT?

I would love to see another Manning wearing the orange and white in the future but if he does have a kid that is a great player, I couldn't blame the kid for going to another school to try to build his own legacy. It would be very hard for another Manning to play here because Peyton's status would shadow him his whole career more than likely.

Much like it did for Eli at Ole Miss? Yeah, that sure didn't work out at all...

Yeah the Manning's are an exception but it usually doesn't work out that way.
Tennessee's All-American Keith Delong son Of All-American Steve Delong. (Correct me if I'm wrong GaVol).

Most recent Eric Berry son of James Berry.

I'm referring to legends. Yeah those players are great but I'm talking about the kids of players like Michael Jordon, Joe Montana, people like that. Jordon's kids aren't very good, Montana's older kid is a flop maybe Nick will be good I don't know. I won't even get started about Dale Jr who would be an absolute nothing without his last name. Manning will have that kind of legendary status when his playing days are over. Legendary, all time great athletes seem to tend to have less than stellar kids when it comes to their playing careers. At least that's my opinion.

those are two great example of legacies that came home. True Vol Family.
another legacy in the form of a brother was Bobby Majors (Johnny's younger brother) who played DB in the 70's. He won the offensive player of the game once while playing defense (take that Charles Woodson)

This thread reminds me of when Jimmy Clausen chooses Notre Dame over us after both of his brothers went here it kind of pissed me off because Fulmer worked like hell to try to get him here and failed.

There have been times over the past 3 years where I wondered what it would have been like if Jimmy was here.

What exactly is a progedy?

Jimmy didnt come here after the way Fulmer jerked Rick around during the 2005 season. Sure, Rick was the most skill restricted QB we have had since the two headed monster of Allatore/Ostrewski, but he was a leader and got tired of the QB bouncing ball with Ainge (Youre the man, no wait, youre the man). I remember after the LSU game in 2005, when ESPN was interviewing Clausen and Fulmer, Fulmer tried to put his arm around Clausen like he was his long lost son, and Rick gave him one of the most obvious F--- You looks I have ever seen. I knew that night that we had a snowball's chance in hell of getting Jimmy.

With Cut as OC, he probably would have been pretty good. With Clawson, he probably would gotten the Crompton treatment.

Well Eli didn't go to UT numbnutts.. if he would have then he would have been overshadowed by Peyton. Eli went to Ole Miss so he could start his own

your post = :bad:

i think he is referring to the fact that eli went to the same college where his father archie went to college. thus eli didn't start his own legacy at ole miss, he continued it

This just in frat boy. Eli's Dad is the Ole Miss legacy. He was a great qb in his old right. Go to the library and get the book.

This is off topic, but I must say it. Lots of folks on this forum have clever avatars, but I object to one: a picture of Philip Fulmer with the legend 'Mediocrity' beneath. Perhaps this individual was not a Vol fan in the 1990s, or has a very short memory. I hate to rehash the Fulmer debate yet again, but I do not believe you can label someone mediocre when he was coach during a decade when UT's winning percentage was highest in the history of the program; when he is 2nd only to Gen Neyland in career wins; when he led the school to a NC, something that neither Wyatt nor Dickey nor Majors (nor Kiffin) could do. As a fan who still remembers and appreciates what many UT coaches accomplished, including Fulmer, I find that avatar quite offensive.

True. But an argument can be made that he took what Majors built and did that with it. Granted the NC wasn't Majors' recruits, but the foundation was laid. Plus, consider the fact that Majors was "forced out" due to the program falling off and Failmer's record over his final 4 years was worse than Majors'.

Fulmer 29-21
Majors 34-9-2 (and he only coached 8 games of the final season)

Well you can cover your left eye and not look at the avatar or you can realize the facts that Fulmer inherited a championship program with the most talent in the SEC and parlayed that into a final decade of mediocrity with ZERO SEC championships and ZERO BCS bowls with 2 losing seasons and losses to Vandy and Wyoming and eventually left the program in the ditch. His record against Urban, Saban, Tubbs, and Richt was atrocious. I appreciate what Fulmer did in the 1990s. However he got complacent, stubborn, and delusional and outlived his usefulness and tried to pull a constant power play with Haslem and the BOT to keep his job for years longer than he should have because he cared more about himself than UT.

The 1990s was a long time ago. Everybody appreciates that decade, its players, and coaches. If Fulmer wanted to live on that success forever then he should have retired much earlier. You can't live on it forever when you choose to defiantly underachieve for years. The fact that 8 BCS schools have hired coaches this year and all Fulmer got was a 10 minute phone interview from Louisville should speak volumes.

I find these same arguments all the time amazing, Phillip only did it with majors recruits but I seem to remember that Johnny couldnt hardly win that year with his own recruits but Phil came in and won with them when Johnny went out.

I will say this I love Johnny and Phil, when Phil took over I thought Johnny was passed his prime and the same when Phil was fired. Sadly that is the way things work sometimes you get passed by when the time comes.
