Lee Corso retiring

As cringe as Corso has been the last few years, it saddens me to see the old ones leave.

I miss Al McGuire in March Madness and I'll miss Vitale when the time comes. I miss Cosell reporting John Lennon was shot. I miss the reverence with which Jim McKay reported the 1972 Olympics tragedy. Dizzy Dean and Harry Carey barely able to speak English.

Corso needs to retire but it is like changing wallets. Man, I hate changing wallets.

Exactly where I'm at.

Also for better or worse, many of these guys had a style and personality that you knew they were calling the game or on color commentary as soon as they spoke. You didn't need to see them introduced. As cringe as it kinda was I miss "You're looking LIVE" from Musburger. Bill Walton was out of his gourd but I miss his color commentary on college basketball games because it was so entertaining. Harry Carey will always be one of the greatest play by play guys to me and by the 5th inning he was a 12 pack in and might not even know what day it was.

Seeing Harry Carey leaning out of the box leading "Take me out to the ballgame" and drooling like a Mastiff on the rows beneath him is just good entertainment, but you can't be that drunk on TV anymore because you'll go viral and every sponsor will drop you.

Give me Skip and Ernie calling a game, especially if it was complete blowout, getting a little bored and the humor starting to lean a little more colorful.

But, congrats to Corso, and I think my teeth are done soaking........

It’s sad to see an end to an era but they’ve been Weekend at Bernie-ing him for the past 7-8 years and it’s just been sad.

All you young kids don’t realize that Corso IS College Gameday. Yes, he was way past his prime. Yes his health prevented him from being his best version. But Herbie and the others love that man and Corso lived for show. Even in his old age, he didn’t bring the show down, it was great they could keep including him.
His impact is definitely lost on the younger crowd. GameDay coming to your game was just huge and he was definitely a big part of that

That's OK. He can just come back every weekend as a guest. Maybe more will respect him if he's no longer expected to carry the rock equally as one of five commentators.

Love that guy.

Can they assign someone else to takeover the head gear segment? It's such a tradition.

Oh definitely, that would never happen now.

My favorite memory of Harry was a game the Cubs were losing, he was drunk, Steve Stone was trying his best to stay professional but also was throwing in straight faced zingers that drunk Harry didn't get and entertaining himself; and in about the 6th inning there was a play where the ball was hit and I dont' think the Cubs' runner knew if it was caught or not and was hesitent rounding second and Harry apparently got up and shouted "HEYYYYYYYY......RUUUUUUUUUUNNNN"

He’s been God awful for a decade. Almost as bad as watching Biden getting rolled around
Pretty huge difference there. Corso making game predictions hasn’t affected anyone’s life or national security. So, no, not almost as bad.I think Pat MacAfee is a clown, so ai have thing I do where I just don't watch. People have had that option with Corso as well.

Dang, lotta shots at LC on this thread. The guy has been great for college football in my opinion. Who cares if his analysis stinks and he's been past his prime for decades? The guy loves college football and brought a smile to my face on every gameday on saturday mornings. Y'all really don't chuckle when he puts on the mascot head to close out Gameday? Have a heart. He's been one of the faces for college football for a long time. Much love and respect to the man, and I wish him well as he rides off into the sunset.
