Leaving the Vols hat on the table

Before Vonn Bell became a big time recruit his social networking was littered with Tennessee stuff. He was a Tennessee fan. Oh BTW, he is expected to see playing time at free safety and nickel this week.

I have no ill will towards VB but had he been my son I would have advised against the way he handled his choice.
A lot of people felt he went out of his way to make UT look bad. people will sometimes do stupid things.
I'm just glad no UT fans over reacted and took action.

He is just a kid after all

Per Bell's dad we would have had him locked up his Jr. year if Doolittle had made an effort. Anyway, lets keep in mind before we cry foul over a kid picking another school this is somebodys son and they may not be looking thru orange colored glasses like most of us on here are. It is a life changing decision for them and im sure its a difficult one.

No way are they the real deal. I watched them play Northwestern this year (the only semi-decent team they played so far) and they should have lost that game (refs had to give them several favorable spots on 4th downs in last 5 min for them to win that game). Meyer is a good coach but the level of competition they play is a joke (Michigan is the only real game they have left, and even that is debatable since Michigan is horrible themselves - could not even beat Penn State with all those sanctions).
In my opinion the only SEC team they would beat for sure is UK - they would have about even chances against Vandy, Arkansas, Auburn, and UT (and of course easily lose to everyone else).

And? We almost beat Georgia, yet barely beat South Alabama

Braxton Miller could start at any SEC school

And since we (even you here) are comparing them to us when we are at our all time low and they are undefeated this only goes to show what type of competition they play (and makes the point that they are not the real deal in spite of that record).

Really? You think he would start at Bama, A&M, UGA, or LSU over who they have right now? :eek:lol:
And even if he would start in lot of other SEC schools what does that prove? Nobody is arguing that they don't have any talent at any position - just overall they are not on par with elite SEC programs (that gets proven every time they face anyone from SEC in bowl games - look it up - I already posted the link in this thread).

^^^^The argument over how good Ohio State is/would be against the SEC should have ended with this post. They suck against SEC teams when they play them on occasion. Put them into a regular SEC schedule for a season and I don't think they could beat a ninth or tenth place SEC team by the end of the year.

Seriously, to even argue the point when there are FACTS to the contrary is pretty stupid.

Was going to add JMO, but it's not an opinion, it's a fact.

I'm sure Derrick Green is kicking himself for being on the #1 team in the country that will probably win another title while we are struggling with South Alabama. It's not a knock at us....it's just where we are at currently. I don't think he's gonna beat himself up for that, since all he cares about is the NFL, which is the main reason he chose Bama.

Derrick Green plays for Michigan...I believe you are thinking of Derrick Henry.

Braxton Miller would definitely start at Tennessee.

The fact is that those games were played under Tressell? Urban has been recruiting SEC caliber players since he's been there. The Florida pipeline has been opened even more for them. I guarantee they have more NFL caliber guys than we do right now

It is such a hard decision for these young guys ... I played D-1 basketball and had several scholarship offers. I wanted to play basketball at one school, go to school and party at another, and wanted to go to college in the city of another. So many things go into the decision ... I ended up going to the best basketball program that was closest to home. I have to admit, it would be hard to say no to Butch, Neyland, Battle at Bristol, and everything that UT has to offer. I hope the recruits feel the same way :)

Sure - so what? He would start at few other lower tier SEC teams right now as well (so would a bunch of their other players). But the fact is that OSU gets crushed by top tier SEC teams every time they face them. So the fact that they are 11-0 or whatever vs pathetic competition they play does not mean much. Also, the argument that Meyer is putting so many guys into NFL I'm not so sure about. How is Tebow doing in NFL lately? Guys from his system (on the offensive side) don't seem to do well in NFL (they are not prepared for pro style after playing spread in college). Same applies to Oregon (they have been good for a while but how many QB's and other skill position stars do they have playing in NFL)?
Also as far as Meyer goes, he seems pretty relaxed at OSU - at UF he was constantly stressed out and needed medical breaks for dealing with stress etc (because he actually had to worry about possibility of losing every week).

Exacly. Meyer is relaxed now because he knows the competition they face absolutely sucks. The level of talent in the Big 10 is horrible in comparison to not only the SEC but many of the other top conferences. Outside of Michigan and Ohio State none of those schools recruit at a national level. Those schools are lucky if they pull in a Top 25 recruiting class each year and none are ever factors for pulling in Top 10 type classes. It's a below average league that the media, especially ESPN and ABC continue to obsess about and overhype because of their TV contract.

Meyer was stressed at UF because he knew he could lose any given Saturday and he couldn't handle how quickly Saban came in to Bama and in about 2 years left his UF program in the rearview mirror.

I do not think the kids really look at anything besides the football side of things when they commit. if they look at it what am I going a do when I am not playing football Tennessee is a great place well east Tennessee is got lakes mountains valleys and nice grass lands ,I lived in Biloxi Mississippi yea you got a number of cities you can get to for things to do I go to new Orleans in a little over an hour and mobil in 30 minuets Gulfport in 15 or 20 or the ocean and I aint got anything for the ocean. the only hills I saw was when I was in a hole I went to baton rouge to see motley crue . It is a nice place to visit but I hate it down there. I worked up near Columbus well between there and Louisvill and all it is corn and flat lands and wind .and I hated it up there I did not like anything about ohio except the money I made.i was in the Army for 8 years and saw a lot of states and cities and a lot of countries and islands but only a few places I have ever been even compare to east Tennessee. But to each his own I guess but this 14 recruiting class understands one thing even though UT is mot winning it takes good players to win and this upcoming class will be a class that in 10 ,20 or 30 years people will remember them as much as those who won the bcs tital because they are the class that started the vols rise back from obscurity back in the spotlight and if a player goes elsewhere even if he grew up in the shadows of the staduium if your heart is not attttt UT don't come because you will not give your all if you don't love this place and your heart is not in it .sorry for the grammer my keyboard is screwed up and spell check does not work
