Least penalized team in the SEC

This is a significant improvement! Last year we seem to always beat ourselves with stupid penalties on important drives

Uhhh we still do beat ourselves with stupid penalties? Like a touchdown throw to Chandler called back for holding. Or a first down gained called back for holding.... or punting from basically your end zone because of illegal formations. Etc. etc. etc.

We obviously have a lot to work on but I remember saying they are beating themselves way too many times last year. Sure we have had stupid penalties this year but I dont think its as many as last year or even close for that matter.. I will try to do some research and find out

This is always an interesting topic. I could be wrong, but it seems like every year the best teams in the SEC and the country commit lots of penalties and the worse teams do not commit as many. Maybe it has something to do with the aggressiveness? I don't know.

You are correct, we do still screw things up. The good thing is we do it less than anyone else in the SEC. At least look at that positive. We just can't afford as many mistakes right now due to talent gap.

It’s usually a sign of good coaching. I think Mason has a very disciplined team at Vandy, just not very talented. Alabama and UGA are 4 and 5 on the list.

I agree. It is an interesting topic. Your statement about aggressiveness is interesting. Could be something to that.

I''d take 6 more penalties in exchange for those 6 turnovers during the Florida game.

Yes, penalties and turnovers are two sides of the same "dumb, self-defeating mistakes" coin, but...

There's beating yourself, then there's beating the crap out of yourself. We did the latter against the Gators.

Just at a glance, this doesn't seem to be a significant stat. It looks to me like two teams have averaged 8 penalties a game, one team has averaged 7 penalties a game and 11 out of the 14 teams have averaged 5-6 penalties a game. We're one of the 11.

Yay.
