Leach System

How in the hell did the answer to our question begin and end with Greg Schiano when vastly superior options like Leach and Gundy were out there for the taking?

Does his system work? It worked in two places where you are fighting with one hand tied behind your back. Lubbock and Pullman are two of the most difficult places to recruit from in this nation and Leach has managed to make both programs extremely competitive in their conferences.

At Tennessee, centrally-located to some of the greatest talent pools in the nation with an emergent in-state talent base, he would thrive.

There are many ways to win in this conference. Too many people out there believe you have to operate a power running scheme to get things done. This plays right into the hands of Alabama, as Saban's defensive scheme is at its best against such an offensive approach. This is why this paradigm gets played up in a media that routinely kisses Nick Saban's ass at every opportunity.

But the folks who do the best against Saban, the Spurriers, Malzahns, Freezes, and (with an elite-level quarterback) Sumlins, do it with a balanced offense and a willingness to stretch the field vertically and horizontally. Those who fail routinely against Alabama simply play a conservative game on a short field and make it easy on them.

Leach's approach reminds me of what Fulmer and Cutcliffe were doing while together at Tennessee. It is balanced and it echoes Cutcliffe's belief that balance is the possession of equal competency in the run or the pass, not some sense that you always achieve at or near a 50/50 run-to-pass ratio statistically. Leach is only different in that he opens up the run through the use of the pass while Fulmer and Cut used the running game to open up opportunities, particularly down the field for the likes of Pickens, Kent, and Swain, in the passing game.

Washington State was a dumpster fire before Leach arrived there. After ten years of mismanagement, we find ourselves in a similar situation. But there is nothing going on here in terms of record or talent that Mike Leach hasn't seen in worse working order in Pullman. This job would not scare him. And that, when combined with proven ability, really is what is required here.

Always the same crap with SEC fans.

“_______ system will never work in the SEC”

Urban Meyers offense will never work in the SEC.
That Hugh Freeze offense will never work in the SEC.
Gary Pinkels offense will never work in the SEC.
Gus Mahlzans offense will never work in the SEC.

And on and on and on...

Yeah they work if you can keep it hidden until you hit the hard stretch of the season and dodge injuriesBUT you have to have a tweakable offense with players that can change on the fly because SEC DC's are top of the line and they gonna shut ya down quick. It'll take Leach a year at least to size up his opponents in this conference. I hope he does well.

Isn’t Washington State the team that got beat badly by Washington. Why didn’t we talk to Peterson

We have tried previously, he's the 2nd best coach in the nation, a west coast guy, he has no reason to leave.

You do realize his running backs, this year so far, have 344 touches for 2063 yards? The receivers have a grand total of 316 touches for 3516 yards? Seems pretty balanced to me. If you understood balance the way the its understood in the Air Raid, you'll understand why it works.

Why just one score against Washington? Late in the season and surely the offense had gelled by then.

I’ll be honest. Seeing Mizzou torch teams late this year. Seeing Auburn put up big points on good defenses. Etc. I think Auburn, Georgia and Alabama are the only 3 defenses that are even respectable in the SEC. just my .02.

And I also think Leach not even being able to bring top 50 recruiting classes to Texas Tech or Washington State...but being able to work with what he had and coaching them to victories over Stanford, USC, Oregon, #1 Texas in 2008....he knows how to utilize personal to their best abilities. You don’t punch top 5 teams in their nose with less than top 50 talent without being able to shift some guys around and make it work. Just my opinion.

But the guys roster maybe has 1 four star recruit on it and he constantly out performs 85% of ALL cfb teams.

Because he says bad words and actually has a set between his legs and clearly does not give two chits about what anyone thinks of him.

Ya know. A man.

So people have only seen Dooley and Butch are clearly worried about a real coach coming here and actually being successful and having his way.

Just my opinion.

:clapping:
PAC 12 stats:

2014- #1 in passing, last in rushing

2015- #1 in passing, last in rushing

2016- #1 in passing, #11 in rushing

2017- #1 in passing, last in rushing

How does that say balanced offensive attack?
Running back touches are still going to be a lot. Probably more touches than in a typical offense. The wear and tear isn't as much and the yards per carry is generally impressive. Rb will see a ton of passes come their way.

All I care about is the "W's". Leach has history of P5 W's. Know this doesn't line up with .500 record coaches we've offered the job to, but maybe we can make an exception.

Additionally, with all the dysfunction in K'ville, we need either a VFL to bring everyone together, or someone like Kiff or Leach, or formerly Gundy, who have thick skin and aren't going to be overwhelmed by the job.

Let's also face it, at this point, we're looking for the most qualified warm body to take the job...but fwiw, the ignoring of Les is puzzling.
