I don't see Banks ever playing tailback again..... Too risky.. You can work on fixing the fumbling and may go several games with out a fumble but with the game on the line he may fumble again.
I recall the Penn State game where our full back ran for 30 yards and ended up fumbling the ball and that gave Penn State the momentum and they won.

As pointed out, a lot of RB's also played LB or Safety in HS. Moving positions isn't that big of a deal.

Charles Davis was signed by UT as a QB. Back then the recruiting limits were different, to say the least. But after seeing T. Rob throw the ball he switched positions.

He was a running back and safety in school and some recruited him as RB also I believe but most as safety. But we didn't, we may have looked at him as safety but not RB. But he did play it and play it well in high school. GBO!

I think banks could make a great rb or lb because he has the intangibles but can he really make the move to lb in a week? Seems like he wouldn't make the right reads, know the pass coverage responsibilities, it could get ugly quick. Your thoughts?

They night use him on certain packages! Pass coverage would be real hard to learn in a week. Moving him to LB hopefully will light a fire in someone else's ass.

Fumbling seems like the thing I'd work on than moving the guy positions when we are thin at RB. We don't have a go-to back and he had potential to be that. Not saying he won't be a good LB and that i want to start questioning everything Pruitt does. Just hope this doesn't end up like Muschamp at Florida moving all the best players to defense and having a terrible offense forever.

the game is changing financially for professionals at specific positions. RB to LB makes sense in the past and makes more sense as time goes on. RB's in college will need to be able to catch passes from the backfield or play slot. the RB position is very demanding on the body. RB have a short life span, as we are seeing in the NFL. guys like Banks are capable of creating long term production by playing other positions, with their current athletic skill set. RB position should also be a depth position, which decreases the amount of playing time. RB's are important but Banks will produce more, by playing more, at LB.

I don't know @ that. Jeremy played fast and loose w the ball like nobody I've seen in years. Ball security is not a quick fix I don't think. I'd say Pruitt 100% shut him out on offense. Maybe he's testing him on D since he ain't carrying this yr.
Who knows.

Im not worried about this year. Im worried about getting guys who fit what he wants to doand we are further away on offense IMO. If you want to be a physical football team, you need some physical backs. Jordan and Chandler aren't very physical. Good in their own rights, but they aren't bellcows like Scarborough, Damien Harris, etc. Can't really lean on them on a 3rd and 2. Granted OL is bad, but like Pruitts said, he wants backs that fall forward.

To add to what was mentioned before about Alvin Toles, I believe he even played a season or two at fullback with the Vols before switching to LB, maybe his junior year.

Toles became the #1 draft pick by New Orleans Saints legendary GM Jim Finks in Jim Mora's first year as HC. IIRC, a knee or leg injury finished his NFL career early, by which time the famous "Dome Patrol" linebacking corps had been assembled through the draft and USFL signees.

Nobdy knows how it's going to turn out. I see guys moved around and moved right back all the time. On the other hand he could be a natural at lb. We'll all understand it by and by...Go Vols!

Have no idea which players that ultimately became LBs were recruited as RBs but it isn't uncommon for RBs to become LBs at any school.

Johnny Vaught mainly recruited high school QBs and Fullbacks. The former became RBs or WRs if they didn't make it as QBs and the FBs became LBs or linemen.

I went to an alumni meeting where Doug Dickey spoke (was his first recruiting year .. 1963 ?). At that meeting he said he was looking for the best athletes available regardless of position and that they would play where best suited.
He also said "I'm not looking for the best athlete you've seen this year. I'm looking for the best athlete you've EVER seen.
