Will West made a statement yesterday online that was idiotic (Normal for this man). His statement towards Banks moving to MLB or OLB was a move for the coaches and not the player. First and foremost Banks requested it, second does he not know the history of UT linebackers? In the hay day UT recruited RB's to play LB, If you look back at the most successful LB's that played at UT most were RB's in HS. Al Wilson comes to mind. The reason why they moved them to LB was they were fast and had a never say quit attitude.. Will West (I'm not a fan of his by any stretch) fails to understand is UT made a living off of RB's moving to LB when signed and thrived. Banks would be a fine addition as a LB. Fast, Nose for the ball, and aggressive. I wouldn't doubt if CPF mentioned this to CJP. It's smart and makes sense. Get back to the basics that made you what you were. Like the post or hate it but moving Banks to LB is a super smart move. Will West can go dunk his head in a bucket and as bad as I hate to say it, doesn't have the sense to pull it out. I would prefer he just stop ceasing to exist at that point.

He never picks UT to win, always negative, and has a doom and gloom attitude after every game. His break down after the AU game should let every UT fan know where this CLOWN, and yes he is a CLOWN stands on UT football. It wasn't UT played a solid game, it was AU handed UT the game. Will West is a Joke! Plain and simple and hard to find a reason this idiot has a talk show on a Tennessee sports market.

I never listen to the local sports shows anymore, none of them

Not disagreeing with the point you're making but to my memory Al was recruited as a safety and changed to LB. He didn't play RB at UT.

I like the Banks move. He can always go back to RB, or he could add to the great history of converted RB's to move to defense. The kid has the want to I guarantee you that.

Al played RB in HS, do the math. look up the amount of RB;s that went to the D side. It will astound you.

Never said he was new to the position but look back how UT recruited in the 90's-to early 2000's and count the number of RB's to LB
Except you've never once mentioned he was a LB before he got to UT. Maybe he was just a LB they recruited to play LB?

And LB. Not like he was brand new to the position

Ha ha, I know better than most. My first catch in HS was against JCM on a slant across the middle. Al was heading towards me and since I already had a first down, I made a "business decision" and went down before he got there...

Most RB's played LB in HS if they had to go both ways. Fast and instinctive hitters on offense make the better LB's....... no arguing that point. Unless you want to. I was a LB in HS that moved to CB in college because of my speed, hitting, and vertical. I think I know what I'm talking about, Might not but I'm pretty sure I do.

So was Al Wilson signed by UT as a RB?

Your post even admits that these guys were already LBs before getting to college. Perhaps they were really just LBs playing RB in HS?

Eric Westmoreland was RB and LB at my Alma mater. If I'm not mistaken, he was a star at RB but I imagine his build and speed landed him at LB in college.
What year did you graduate? I went to Marion county too.

I believe Westmoreland led Marion Co to 3 state titles at RB and safety
He had more than 6,000 yards and 85 TDs in his high school career.

Made a heck of a LB at UT

Most players play at their intended position. I am not including moving from Guard to Tackle, because both are O Line.
Berney Vezey was caught up in a q.b. depth chart, so he was moved to wide receiver. Dominique Stevenson was moved from tailback to L.B. because Jamaal Lewis, Travis Henry & Travis Stevens were on the depth chart also. Jason W. moved from the D. Line to Tight End.
