Lbs next year?

I think so as well, but there are a few people on here that would disagree with you. Apparently he's too slow to play OLB, and won't play next year unless Mayo moves to the outside. We'll see if people disagree with you though.

Is Donald really so slow that we think he can't play LB?? I mean, we just started Ryan Karl for 2 years and even though he's smaller and a little quicker than some LB's, I wouldn't exactly call him a speedster. And didn't Marvin Mitchell run like a 4.8 or 4.9 at the combine? He was pretty good.

Surely Donald is athletic enough to be an OLB. Great instincts and play diagnosis can make a LB look twice as fast as he really is. Just look at Demeco Ryans. He was an AA caliber player at Alabama, drew tons of praise at the Senior Bowl from NFL coaches, and excelled in everything he did. But he dropped to rd. 2 in the NFL because they thought his playing speed was below average. He looks pretty damn fast to me on Sundays

Demeco = MLB

That's where Donald's future lies.

I tend to agree with that, but I'm pretty sure Ryans played strongside at Alabama and was moved to the middle in the pros only.

Demeco was an outside LB in college. But Donald will be a MLB here at Tennessee. The coaches feel his skill set fits what they want at the MLB spot.

Stay calm, Donald will get his playing time here. He's still a year away from having a huge role on D though.

At any rate, just one linebacker spot to fill is a pretty good problem to have.

If we can recruit some D-line depth, get Morely back into the backfield rotation, and grow up a bit at D end, there is great potential for Chavis' group next season...

That is what I had hoped for all along. The whole "move to DE" they did just seemed odd to me, and I was hoping it wasn't a permanent move.

Thats a very accurate assessment.

I feel like Bolden and Williams will form a good SEC caliber interior line next season. We will need depth to step up though.

Ayers needs to consistently play up to his potential. Brown needs to improve. And, Martin and Walker need to grow up quick and play up to their potential.

There's one thing in common about all of UT's great defensive tackles in the past.......they've all had great size. 6'5"-6'8" and 280 lbs+. I don't think Williams has that kind of size.

There have been great DT's that are his height. So you are saying he wont be a great DT because UT has not had great DT's his height before?

In all accuracy, I think 6'3 is a stretch. But I dont think his height limits him so bad that he cant become a very good DT.

I'm just making an observation that the best DT's I remember were also the biggest.

The best 2 DT I remember are Haynesworth 6'6" 320 lb and John Henderson 6'7" 335lb. I don't think its a coincidence they are the biggest DT's too.

Look at the line now, the best tackle is Bolden and he's also the biggest at 6'6". It's not secret what makes a great tackle, its great size and strength.

Mahelona is the only relatively small DT I remember who played well but he was still 6'0" and 311 lb. He's not had much of an NFL career. He benefited from other good players on the line at college.

I think going into the bowl game that Dan Williams is playing better than Bolden.
