Lawson Named new Olympic coach.

As long as it gets rid of the dirt bag Geno I'm happy. Maybe we can have a real USA team of the best players now instead of a UConn2 team.

It was Cheryl Reeve last cycle and the director is a UConn grad. So unlikely to change anytime soon.

Not putting Clark on the last roster was still the dumbest, most spiteful thing I’ve seen since Geno lobbied to keep Candace off.

Kara will do great in this role! The USA's talent gap over the rest of the world (though narrowing) is still significant and the main task of the USA coach is just to get this collection of elite players functioning as a team. It is not about creating innovative X and O schemes.

At the time of her omission from the national team, CP3 was a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2008 and '12) and two-time WNBA MVP (2008 and '13) and Finals MVP in 2016. Also, in 2016, Parker was named in the WNBA Top 20@20, a list of the league's best 20 players ever in celebration of the WNBA's twentieth anniversary. (And lets not forget, she was also MVP in two NCAA tournaments where she led her LV teams to back-to-back national titles).

In contrast, Clark had played 10 WNBA games in total when the US roster was named.

These two omissions are not remotely comparable.

This is a LV board and your irrational Caitlin Clark obsession does not get a pass in this context.

Your overlooking that CC is/was the hottest name in Women's Basketball in the world. If your trying to put eyeballs on your sport globally how do you not have the biggest star in the world playing?

Nope, I am not getting pulled into a debate over whether Clark should have been put on the US national team for marketing reasons.

I was pointing out that CP3's omission from the team was a far more egregious decision from a basketball standpoint.

as usual a thread is highjacked when an individual has a bias, or multiple biases on someone mentioned in the thread that person suddently has the permission to refocus the thread.

some folks that TN made a mistake when she was placed on the UTN board, "bad decision."

BTW a sound decision for the future of US basketball

Agree. This is actually a great decision. She’ll have a great staff around her.

I think this is a great hire but you do know who selected Kara, don’t you?
Oh. I thought he wasn't involved in the decision-making as far as personnel was concerned. At least that's what you Connecticut folks tried to convince everyone when reigning WNBA MVP Candace Parker got cut from the Olympic squad. Y'all said he had no say in player choices or coaching hirings.

I think the point was that Sue Bird as Director made the announcement.
