Lawrence Frank - Boston Celtics Assistant

I never said that...in fact i actually said we dont really know if he would be a good college coach just because of his nba history.

My bad, man. I guess I was a little presumptive.

I actually agree with you. But most of the supposed candidates we don't really know for sure can be successful here.

You really never can tell about any coach for that matter. Just because Phil Jackson could come here doesnt mean we would win.

Agree. A slam dunk is probably not on the horizon for us but hey a person can wish huh?

What I don't want is a debacle like the UT Football Team had last year, where UT coaching candidates changed more than Mel Kiper's Big Board. If God forbid Hammy stays and does this search, then please don't leak that information until the top two or three guys who will definently come are finalized.

According to a source, Lawrence Frank is in no way Tennessee's top target. In fact, he may be on second-tier list.
Goodman is the guy who said that Frank was the darkhorse candidate. Somebody must have been pushing for Frank and came up short.

The more I learn about Frank, the less enthused I am of his candidacy for our job.

I don't believe he'll be our coach, but I'd be stunned if he's considered 'second tier.'

Should UT wait until at least the Final Four to interview guys, or go full throttle in the search now? Has the search officially begun? that means Hammy is still in charge. I have heard no vote of confidence in Hammy keeping his job, Have I missed something the last day or so?

You do realize that he has been a head coach in the league, right?

And how does this leads me to believe that he can recruit young minority athletes ?

I have a friend that is the pitching coach for the Dodgers. Doesn't mean that he can recruit prospective college baseball players. Doesn't mean that he can't.

I don't get how people say 'Frank is a question mark' then act as if Shaka Smart and Anthony Grant could come here and tear it up.

Let's say Frank wants the job, but will stay with the Celtics through the playoffs. Could a contract be issued and signed before the end of his season stating that he will become the head coach as soon as his season ends? I would think that UT would want to announce this asap, and not wait until the Celtics are finished in the playoffs. There is some critical timing here in the case of Hopson and Harris declaring for the draft, and perhaps causing Ware and Jones to keep their commitments to UT depending on who the new coach is. The longer it takes to announce who the new coach is whoever it is, it reduces our chances for the above to happen.

I see no reason it wouldn't be possible. I'm just not sure we would do that. In my opinion, if UT is sure Frank is the right guy, they should be open to that.

Ummm.... maybe because every one of them are trying to make it to the NBA. Thought that was pretty obvious to most.

Hadnt heard this argument. Not very sound if you ask me.

I can't believe the stupidity on this thread. If a guy has NFL experience you people get all giddy about the guy with football. Omg lovie smith omg jon Gruden. Lawrence frank was a head coach in the NBA. He also has experience in college. He knows the ropes and can say I've been to the association and I know how to get you there. Simple as that. He doesn't need a personality and he doesn't need yalls good graces to accomplish that. Wake up. Lawrence frank is the best option outside of a Larry brown for an immediate impact regardless of sanctions. Everyone else "will need time"

Hubbs says this morning that there is a chance that Lawrence Frank is the one that's leaking that he's the leading candidate.

Well in my opinion college football is closer to nfl than college basketball is to nba. But to use your example...how did charlie weiss work out? People at ND were plenty giddy about him.
