Lawrence Frank - Boston Celtics Assistant

C'mon, man. Don't be a jerk. I am not for blackballing anyone who cusses. Never said that. That is not why I am asking this question. I just see a few guys, namely Grant and Stevens, whose resumes scream "winner." I see a lot of hype about Frank. I would like to know why I should be excited about him coming here. (If he does.)

Took the Nets to 4 out of 6 NBA playoffs, and I believe 3 conference championships.

He is extremely well respected by his peers. He's an excellent, excellent tactician. He coached the NJ Nets for 6 and a half years; that in and of itself says something. He coached here with O'Neill, so he knows the college game, and his NBA experience would enable him to really recruit well, imo.

On the cussing thing, let's just be realistic, we're not going to get a coach that doesn't cuss, so it's not an issue.

He has SEC experience and NBA coaching experience, not as up-and-coming as the other big names, but more of a good pick

I hear you, but the other "big names" have proven themselves to be winners. Grant especially. I don't want Smart or Williams as they are too unproven for me. But if Grant, Marshall, or Mooney can be had, I would be more excited about them than Frank.

If you think the NFL lockout is bad, I guaren-****in-tee it there will be missed NBA games, and there's a good chance the whole season will be locked out.

Yeah, Dr. J basically said they were on a collision course for it. Which is kinda sad, since they had one in '99. But I will sacrifice a handful of Bulls games to get Frank to leave Boston for Knoxville :)

I don't really see the fascination with Grant. He's a solid coach, nothing more.

As an assistant, right? I don't think anyone here would mistake Tony Jones for Bruce Pearl as the straw that stirred the drink in basketball around here.

Cussing is cathartic.

Grant has at least two NBA players on his roster and missed a dance that included play in crapfests. Remember, he followed Capel, who won too at VCU. I'm a Grant fan, but you're over the top.

But no matter what we the fans want, the boosters hammy, cheek and the board will choose who they want.

Frank is a NBA guy. He wants to be an NBA head. Why would he stop at Tennessee?

I believe we need to refocus our efforts to smaller fish. We are not a program that will land a big name coach from a school. We are mid-level just like many of the other schools. We could go higher but it takes time.

Um...isn't that a good thing?

He's not anything to get excited about. Failing to make the tourney this year in a sewer of a SEC West is not impressive to me. He was good at VCU, but Hell, a whole lot of coaches have been good at VCU. Jeff Capel won there too, and he's currently unemployed.

We just went to six straight NCAA's, three sixteens, an SEC title, and beat a couple #1's. How much more time do we need?

He should have made the dance. They were better than us and Georgia. The RPI is not always the best barometer.

Winning at UT and the head coaching experience could help him. Besides how do u know for sure did he tell u this. We dunno what he wants.

VCU is probably one of the top 5 mid major jobs (along with Butler, Gonzaga, UNLV, & Memphis). I'm not denying that. I like Grant, thinks he is a good coach. I don't know how I would feel about him at Tennessee. That Bama program was in the absolute dumps when he took it over. I think 2011 will show what he has.

Leaving it open for debate is a problem. They have a better roster than the outcome. I love that they will flat out D you up.

He completely flipped Bama and it's his players who are killing it in the tourney right now at VCU.

He completely flipped Bama? They made the NIT with good talent in the worst division by far in all of the BCS conferences. Maybe some people just have lower expectations than I do.
