Latest update on Josh Heupel's status

Dang people in here embrace fear, worry, fake news, he said she said, and circumstances beyond our control. Mom has a copy of the Serenity Prayer on her fridge held up by a UT magnet. Want a copy? Go Vols! 8-5 in 2021. 13-0 in 2022.

On top of all the other reasons to think he's staying, a lot of his success and the team's effort this year seems to come from a genuine bond based on them trusting and supporting each other.
I don't see him recreating that atmosphere of trust somewhere else if he abandons his current team after one season.

I said he’s not leaving what’s BVS about that?Just pointed out it’s factually incorrect to say he went on live radio and said, “I’m staying at TN”.
He certainly did not say anything about staying at Tennessee. That interview was pure coach speak. I would be surprised if he's offered the OU job but he won't turn it down if he is.

Dumb post is dumb.

Edit: because you can't read, apparently:

"We absolutely love Tennessee and believe what we are building here and can't be happier and more excited about what we are going to do next year and in the coming years," Heupel stated.

I have no idea if he would turn it down or not if offered.

Apparently you're much better friends with him than me though. SMH

It’s been said many times but the worrying can stop as long as Bob Stoops has a say in who the coach is.

I’m sure he doesent hate Stoops but he’s not going out of his way to have Sunday dinner with the man

The best thing that UT has going for it right now is the very substantial buyout. It very likely should prevent OU from considering Heupel.

Because I agree with you…I think he would take it if offered.

I think if Kiffin is still at Ole Miss next year it’s because he isn’t offered any of the decent to good jobs because this is the perfect year to leave Ole Miss .

This needs to end soon.

What needs to end soon? Is this like the Gruden needs to address the rumors theory? There is nothing to address if he has never been approached about the job or if he has no interest. There are no facts out there that suggest either of those points have occurred other than this board's mind

With Kiffin, we burned mattresses.

With Heupel if he leaves, many a couch will feel the fiery wrath and suffer an ashen end at the hands of scorned Vol fans.

I honestly thought he would get either the FL or LSU job...if he wanted it. Man o' man, was I wrong.

He didn’t say anything, the very point. It was coach speak.

I don't disagree that it was essentially coach speak. However, I think the fact that he took this interview is a good sign that he isn't actively pursuing other opportunities.

This wasn't a press conference that he couldn't avoid, it was a voluntary spot on a local radio show while Heupel is on the road recruiting. He knew this question was coming, and could easily have just found an excuse to not do the show had he not wanted to address the rumors in any way.

It also could just have been a nice ploy to get out there, not plainly deny any connection to the OU job but say he loves UT in the coded language that these coaches use to lobby for a raise.

I read it a bit differently.

I think Josh Heupel really, really wants to say, in very certain terms, "Hey, I'm here for the long haul. I'm not going anywhere. This is where I see myself coaching for years and years. We have championships to win."

But his agent is undoubtedly begging him, BEGGING him, not to tie his hands that way. Probably making a very persuasive argument about the need to keep at least a little uncertainty in play so that salary increases and extensions remain in the conversation. It's how you get a raise as a football coach.

So Josh goes as far as he can without causing his agent to jump off a cliff. And he eagerly goes out looking for a chance to say it. Asks if Ainge will interview him. Asks if he will. All so Josh can give as clear a message to the fan base (and recruits) about his future plans as his agent can live with.

That's how I'm reading these particular tea leaves. There's no doubt in my mind we have Josh Heupel long term.

We’ll see if Miami decides to make a move. I think that’s the most logical spot for Kiffin if he’s not at Ole Miss next season.
