Latest from WVU

Saying that our HC is the "best defensive mind in college football" is unfounded. Like completely unfounded. Your not giving us accurate information, you’re giving us your opinion of your coach.

His defenses have led the nation in defensive efficiency 3 out of the last 5 years, with a ridiculous 97 grade in 2016. Not to mention they have led the nation in takeaways. “Decade” is a stretch but he has a ridiculous resume. Obviously I don’t expect a top 5 defense but our players will be put in the best position to succeed in this game. And we have the athletes to smother WV if things go as planned.

I saw their weak practice videos.... WV looked very umm average in those? Might have a few players but overall that team is sluggish on the interiors.
Per Rivals, WVU Recruiting Rankings:
2015: 33
2016: 38
2017: 51
2018: 33

They don't have SEC speed, period.

I know this is meant to be a knock, but it's actually completely factual...
It's also a pot/kettle situation. We have 5 transfers this year that should see significant PT. and we have a pretty good history with transfers... Not gonna speak on IQ levels...

Charlie Garner
Cordarelle Patterson
Alvin Kamara

To name a couple...

Botch wasted talent.....or didn't recognize it......or didn't know how to use it...….

Defense:

Defensive line a strength. No real concerns. WVU believes its DL is night and day from last year.

At LB the first four, lead by David Long and Dylan Tonkery, are exceptional. Not much experience after the top four of Long, Tonkery, Benton and Hensley. WVU will be in trouble if one of the top four goes down.

The Spur (Dravon Askew-Henry), Bandit (Toyous Avery) and FS (Kenny Robinson) are solid to exceptional.

LCB Hakeem Bailey has had a good fall camp battling against one of the best group of WRs in the country, but Bailey has always been a practice superstar who only started to show his talent in games late last year.

RCB Derrek Pitts has the skills and attitude to be a shutdown CB but he's up and down as r-frosh starting for the fist time will be. Pitts is a big hitter with good speed.

Offense:

OL is a strength of the team and one of the best in the country. They've had a few titanic battles with the DL.

The WR group truly is one of, if not the best in the country. Dana describes Alabama transfer TJ Simmons as "pro" with the ability to "go get the football". Frosh Sam Jones has shown blazing speed. Marcus Simms has had a great fall camp and has Grier's full trust going into the season. And there's always David Sills and Gary Jennings...

The breakout has been TE Javoni Haskins. Haskins has shown incredible hands and has the speed and size to take advantage of LB coverage. If Haskins has a weakness its blocking. If he's in the game then he's likely a target or a decoy.

The RBs have been somewhat disappointing with 4* frosh Leddie Brown being the only true standout. Brown, 6'1", 190, will not start but he might just get the bulk of the carries.

Dana and DC Tony Gibson have done nothing to curtail expectations. As a matter of fact both have been downright cocky.

Its a safe bet that WVU will use a three WR set with TE Trevon Wesco in as h-back for max protect to start the game. They expect Tennessee to blitz early and often and exploit the matchups that result.

Expect Grier to take a few shots deep early especially if Sills has double coverage and Simms or Simmons are one-on-one.

According to this, they should have an exceptional team with no weaknesses... However, you say that Dana has been cocky... he's had 2 press conferences complaining about WVU starting school on a Wednesday, and was upset that Pruitt hasn't faxed him over a copy of their depth chart.. I'm surprised he hasn't asked to attend team meetings too...

People from OOC schools just do not get UT football. Here it is a nutshell, we freakin' WANT Bama on out schedule every year! We are never skeered of them, so what's WVU gonna do? Just effin bring it with your best shot!

To quote Ric Flair, "to be the man, you got to beat the man" wooooooooo

I've done my best to give you guys accurate information about WVU. I can't force you to accept it, but I can forewarn you. Tennessee is catching a once-in-a-lifetime Mountaineer team at just the wrong moment.

The Vols have a new staff and new schemes on both sides. How many Vols players will be thinking about their assignments on Saturday? How many will miss assignments? There shouldn't be any debate that WVU's offense is one of, if not the, best in the nation. So how many mistakes can the Vols afford to make before WVU takes advantage?

WVU's players are in their 4th, 3rd and 2nd years of the same schemes. QBs in Dana's system usually see a vast improvement in efficiency from year 1 to year 2. Can we expect any less of Grier and company?

I can only hope the the Vols are overlooking WVU like many of you.

This is the year WVU makes a run at the playoffs and WVU needs to make an impression -- it could get ugly for Tennessee.

If Tennessee is going to win they need plenty of turnovers from WVU. I just don't see that happening...

Anyway, good luck the rest of the season.

p.s.

Here's a video that will teach you the lyrics of "Country Roads". You are all welcome to sing along with us when the musket fires to end the game.

The playoffs??🤣🤩🤭🤣😂

What’s with this whole “SEC Caliber” and “SEC Speed/Size” BS that you guys keep referring to when comparing an opposing team’s roster or comparing matchups? It either shows delusion or stupidity on your part. Just in case you didn’t realize, we have played games against Georgia, Auburn (home and away), LSU (home and away), Mississippi State (home and away), Alabama, Missouri, and Texas AM since 2005. You make our 11th SEC opponent since then. We’re pretty familiar with the SEC and have had some reasonable success against a few of those conference opponents during that time frame. Here’s the kicker though, aside from a couple of really bad Mississippi State and Missouri teams we’ve come across, you guys are one of the worst SEC teams we will have seen. Your 4-8 and 0-9 record, plus what you have lost/returning shows that. Does that mean we blow you out on Saturday? Not necessarily, but I like our chances. If you think we haven’t seen “SEC” style or “SEC” athletes then go tell that to a wall because I promise you that whatever you put on the field Saturday we have seen better in recent years in both the SEC and Big 12. I’m sure Pruett will get you where you want to be as a roster and as a program, but Saturday isn’t going to be it.
