Latest from WVU

Just listened to Big Orange Sunday from coach Mathews. One of the things he likes about the matchup with WVU is the fact that they have no one in their front 6 on D that is larger than 280 lbs. (what he said not me). He thinks we line up with a 260 lb TE and run the ball between the tackles. I like our chances running the ball especially late in the game when it is most crucial to control the clock, but it is only crucial if we have a small lead or are within a score.

You’re buying the “once in a lifetime WVU team” line. Doesn’t sound like you.
and what's more likely "once in a lifetime"...the team that just went on it's 1st 8 loss season in 130 years of football due to a set of of circumstances that led to an unprecedented coaching search/off season, or the team that's never done anything more than almost make it ot the BCS that one year before flaming out as usual?

lol.

my advice to WVU...don't lose. lol.

they're like Mississippi state fans from a couple years ago. or Vandy fans last year with the "we want bama" talk. somebody said something nice about them this summer and now there's no stopping them......

Just spoke to a guy I know that covers WVU, has media pass, etc.
He sees a 7pt game either way. He's not confident they can run, nor stop our run. Says their secondary is inexperienced. Said we will see a lot of 4 man front on D from them bc LB play is very thin, and outside of Long, pretty weak. Dline is 9 deep.
Oline is big and experienced, but depending on edge rushing and how much we can pressure Grier will dictate their scoring.
I showed him a couple of posts from this dude, he knows of him him, he just laughed and rolled his eyes.

I've done my best to give you guys accurate information about WVU. I can't force you to accept it, but I can forewarn you. Tennessee is catching a once-in-a-lifetime Mountaineer team at just the wrong moment.

The Vols have a new staff and new schemes on both sides. How many Vols players will be thinking about their assignments on Saturday? How many will miss assignments? There shouldn't be any debate that WVU's offense is one of, if not the, best in the nation. So how many mistakes can the Vols afford to make before WVU takes advantage?

WVU's players are in their 4th, 3rd and 2nd years of the same schemes. QBs in Dana's system usually see a vast improvement in efficiency from year 1 to year 2. Can we expect any less of Grier and company?

I can only hope the the Vols are overlooking WVU like many of you.

This is the year WVU makes a run at the playoffs and WVU needs to make an impression -- it could get ugly for Tennessee.

If Tennessee is going to win they need plenty of turnovers from WVU. I just don't see that happening...

Anyway, good luck the rest of the season.

Just Stop. Your not giving us accurate information, you’re giving us your opinion of your team. The fact that you claim this is a once in a lifetime team before you’ve even watched them play a down proves how out of touch with true information you are. Your offense is good but we also have a head coach who has proved over the last decade that he is the best defensive mind in football. And that mind has had 8 months to prepare and scheme for your team. We like our chances on this side of the mountain rest assured. And just because your defensive line adds some grad transfers that doesnt mean your d line is gonna be any better than last year so stop it.

We'll see them again although in a different sport. We play W. Va. in basketball this season. Hopefully we'll be 2 and 0 after that game.

Exactly! At this point WVMULE is just troll (one of those little West Virginia types that hide in coal mines) who is trolling our fan base! His opinions are out of touch with reality. Seriously WVMULE, tide pods should not be ingested.

According to WVMULE, the WVU basketball team is the greatest basketball team in the history of basketball and they are not concerned with a matchup against Tennessee. They are making room now to place their basketball championship trophy right next to the BCSCG trophy.

So every position group except RB, is just the absolute best. And the RBs aren't a concern because WV will be passing to the greatest receiving unit in all of fb history by the greatest QB around.

Sounds legit.

LMAO! I thought exactly the same thing.

I have no problem with him exaggerating about his team,a lot of fans do that. It's when he said "once in a lifetime WV team". They had that when Major Harris was QB. IMHO,there hasn't been another WV team close to that.

Saying that our HC is the "best defensive mind in college football" is unfounded. Like completely unfounded. Your not giving us accurate information, you’re giving us your opinion of your coach.

Well, I’m not buying it. I just don’t think his confidence level should get our fans so worked up, but maybe that’s fun for some folks before a game. I shouldn’t yuck their yum.

As far as fan base confidence is concerned it makes way more sense for a VWU fan to have confidence in a great season than a UT fan having confidence that they'll even make a bowl game considering HC experience, quality of returning starters and where each program sits in their development.

Tennessee could win the game easily. They could also get blown out by 49 pts if the WVU QB is as good as people think and our defensive secondary is as bad as it has been in recent years.

Point is, there are tenfold more unknowns about Tennessee then there are about WVU and it should surprise no one that their fans are more confident about the outcome of the game. We just have to see how it plays out because if a UT fan is confident right now its based on nothing but blind confidence in a new head coach.

UT is playing with a bunch of Butch Jones head cases under brand new schemes with a dude who has never been a head coach. Most of our fans have trouble getting us to 6 wins legitimately.

I didn’t say best defensive mind in college football, I said best defensive mind over the last decade. And based off of results, you’d be hard pressed to prove me otherwise. That is just a fact. If he hadn’t won any titles or been at 3 great programs and won national titles at two different stops then yes that would be my opinion, but he did win so those are the facts.

That Pat White and Slaton combo was pretty nasty. But they haven't had much to sing about since RichRod bolted.

So, you've done all this hard work to give accurate information and clearheaded analysis and, yet, you "can only hope the Vols are overlooking WVU."

I believe you predicted the WVU 54-17 over Tennessee. Is that prediction based on the Vols overlooking WVU, as you "can only hope"? Or is that your prediction based on sober, clearheaded analysis?

As nuts as a lot of UT fans are , we've become pretty good at gauging our ability to match up with our OOC opposition. We hear it almost every year , "we have 4 star transfer from whatever p5 school " . We have a vetern oline blah blah " . We don't know much about our team this year , but we do know that your team is getting a lot of unwarranted props . With the skill and talent UT has on it's roster , if our new coaching staff proves just competent , your team is going to be exposed in the worst possible way. Don't say you weren't warned.

Country Roads, huh? You guys are on a DREAMLAND EXPRESS.

While it sounds like ya'll are on a ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH, I suspect you'll be crying a SWEET SURRENDER by halftime, because both lines are LOOKING FOR SPACE. You'll be saying, "PLEASE DADDY, -- I"M SORRY" as you're LEAVING ON A JET PLAIN and thanking God you're BACK HOME AGAIN.

Rocky Top is going to be in their nightmares for a while.
