Latest from WVU

My prediction is the same as it has been. It won't be a ball game by start of the 4th quarter. We will boat race them or they'll boat race us, no in betweens. If a mediocre midrange SEC Vol team shows up, they're doomed. If we carryover from last season and put a similar product on the field, we're doomed.

Does this guy really think we are gonna read that and go .... oh no oh no please WVU go easy on our poor team... if someone has to do this much convincing it’s for their own peace of mind.

anyone that thinks any kid on that roster is exceptional after their defense last year and with all their injuries already this year is smoking methamphetamine through their butt hole.

Thread would have gone differently if the donkey hadn't acted like Mike Ditka is roaming the sidelines in Morgantown with the reincarnated 85 Bears.
I was thinking more like the 72 Dolphins simply because there is no way this WVU team, a national phenomenon who was cheated out of their rightful number 1 spot by a lessor Alabama team, will lose to anyone this season. They are so talented it is almost unfair to the rest of the NCAA.

You guys are getting too worked up from a couple of opposing fan opinions. Looks like there’s a bit of insecurity on both sides.

I don't think so.

Insecurity and Indignation share the first two letters, but they mean different things.

Most of what we're seeing from Vols fans in this thread is indignation. Indignation at the gall of a visitor.

And here's why insecurity doesn't fit us: none of us know what we're gonna get from our Vols this season.

See, you can't build a sense of insecurity on top of the unknown, because insecurity is based on doubt in one's faith or beliefs...and there has to be faith there in the first place for the doubt to creep in. Faith is not the best word to describe Vols fans as we enter the 2018 season--more along the lines of hope.

There, that ought to keep Merriam-Webster in business for a few more weeks.

Defense:

Defensive line a strength. No real concerns. WVU believes its DL is night and day from last year.

At LB the first four, lead by David Long and Dylan Tonkery, are exceptional. Not much experience after the top four of Long, Tonkery, Benton and Hensley. WVU will be in trouble if one of the top four goes down.

The Spur (Dravon Askew-Henry), Bandit (Toyous Avery) and FS (Kenny Robinson) are solid to exceptional.

LCB Hakeem Bailey has had a good fall camp battling against one of the best group of WRs in the country, but Bailey has always been a practice superstar who only started to show his talent in games late last year.

RCB Derrek Pitts has the skills and attitude to be a shutdown CB but he's up and down as r-frosh starting for the fist time will be. Pitts is a big hitter with good speed.

Offense:

OL is a strength of the team and one of the best in the country. They've had a few titanic battles with the DL.

The WR group truly is one of, if not the best in the country. Dana describes Alabama transfer TJ Simmons as "pro" with the ability to "go get the football". Frosh Sam Jones has shown blazing speed. Marcus Simms has had a great fall camp and has Grier's full trust going into the season. And there's always David Sills and Gary Jennings...

The breakout has been TE Javoni Haskins. Haskins has shown incredible hands and has the speed and size to take advantage of LB coverage. If Haskins has a weakness its blocking. If he's in the game then he's likely a target or a decoy.

The RBs have been somewhat disappointing with 4* frosh Leddie Brown being the only true standout. Brown, 6'1", 190, will not start but he might just get the bulk of the carries.

Dana and DC Tony Gibson have done nothing to curtail expectations. As a matter of fact both have been downright cocky.

Its a safe bet that WVU will use a three WR set with TE Trevon Wesco in as h-back for max protect to start the game. They expect Tennessee to blitz early and often and exploit the matchups that result.

Expect Grier to take a few shots deep early especially if Sills has double coverage and Simms or Simmons are one-on-one.

How does this fool keep starting threads? What happen to the 100 post minimum?

Meh.. anything could happen. In a perfect vacuum with no outside factors, maybe it would happen as you say. All it takes is a couple of players not playing their best here or there, and the entire dynamic changes. This is a winnable game for Tennessee and definitely not a foregone conclusion for WFV.

As a gambling man, I wouldn't touch this game. Too many unknowns and could easily go either way.

You just described the entire Vols season. Anything from 3-9 to 9-3 is realistically possible. Waaaay too many unknowns at this point.

Yep.. at this point I definitely wouldn't bet against them. Tennessee has decent talent. If Pruitt can change the attitude and get the players to believe, they could surprise everyone.

I will answer as honestly as I can.
My credentials... former lay journalist, issued press credentials by WVU. Friend of the program. Mostly realistic. Ask away...

Ok, but don't say you were not warned.

OL ... They've had a few titanic battles with the DL.

Is this on tape? Would you share the link of these practices (or, were you privileged to see these during closed practices)?

Hey WV fan! What's the story with that BMW in the Pirelli race yesterday with the WVU logo on it? Pretty damn good advertising.

So every position group except RB, is just the absolute best. And the RBs aren't a concern because WV will be passing to the greatest receiving unit in all of fb history by the greatest QB around.

Sounds legit.
Hahahahaha ..... I was about to say the same thing ..... We shouldn't even okay the season boys .... Just give them the Natty now !!!

You're defensive front seven are a liability not a strenght.
