Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

This is weird because the COVID infection rate in the US isn't worse than it is in Canada.

There is virtually no availability of vaccines in Canada. A couple weeks ago, they were still restricting access to vaccines to people over the age of 75 or something like that. Government-run healthcare in action.

Incorrect.

These people are the ones you see on TV at political summits wearing masks and bumping elbows outside. We are in big big trouble if people don't start being people again and not little wusses.
Those people are taking their masks of the moment the cameras are gone

CDC director says she expects the Indian 'Delta' variant to become Dominant in the US in 'one or two months' as the number of people Infected with Strain in the UK rises by 80% in a week

The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says she expects the Indian 'Delta' coronavirus variant to become dominant in the U.S.

As of Friday, the strain makes up 10 percent of all cases in America - but it only made up six percent last week, meaning the prevalence almost doubled in just seven days.

'Essentially what happens is, when these viruses mutate, they do so with some advantage to the virus. In this case, it's more transmissible.'

She added that when it comes to the Alpha 'Kent' variant that originated in the UK, it only took one or two months to make up the majority of U.S. infections.

'I anticipate that's what going to happen with the Delta strain here,' Walensky said.

Moscow records 9,056 new Covid cases - its highest ever – with the Indian variant accounting for 90% of infections as city bans mass gatherings and closes Euro 2020 fan zone

The Kremlin on Friday blamed a surge in Covid-19 cases on 'nihilism' and reluctance to have vaccinations after a record 9,056 new infections in Moscow, mostly with the Indian variant, fanned fears of a third wave.

This is backwards. All the real sports are in the summer.

You can't be serious; curling could never be played as a summer sport. And for those lusting over gore, there's nothing like a skiing or bobsled wipe-out in the summer.

Unfortunately covid causes clotting disorders. In the beginning cdc advised against anticoagulants and the result was thousands of ischemic strokes in ICU pts. I watched several throw clots everywhere and it killed quite a few. Then I got covid and anticoagulated myself.
Something about a huge health organization missing that liver enzymes are so out of wack that blood dyscrasias are a distinct possibility and advising against anticoagulation just kinda rubs me the wrong way on taking their advice.

When people move into bureaucracies from the front lines they lose touch with the realities of the work. We've made a habit of rewarding managers and making people think they have to move up as management to be successful when we should be recognizing and rewarding those who make it all happen. The dual ladder concept has never really worked because of frustration with those in the decision making capacity, and because bureaucracies always have one characteristic - management pay, etc is always a function of how many underlings and how large a budget a manager controls (generally budget and staffing go hand in hand). More people in the process dilute the achievements that those in technical positions can achieve. Fauci is a perfect example of someone who before he became management and front line technology passed him by might possibly have known what he was doing.
