And we are giving him one of our last 5 scholarships? Yeah...this does not excite me.

I hate it for you. You either support the coaches decision or you do not.

So should I question you loyalty to the Vols because of it? or do you think we should fire CDD and CLT for offering this kid a scholarship because a fan cried about it.

We hired them to do a job, They take it seriously. They have the experience, they have coached and recruited for years.

Who needs to consult about what they do with their last 5 scholarships. Have you lost control of something you did have to begin with?

Their jobs are on the line and their reputation. It is not easy work. They can evaluate and know potential.

Thompson is a great coach he has seen 10,000 of thousands of HS and Juco players. He knows his job.

He knows what he needs in the program to do his job.

Get over it. I concur.

In a fairness to the kid, he would look at your post about him and say laugh

Look, the guy has incredible speed around the end and never takes his eyes off the ball. He can shed blockers just as well as any 4 or 5 star DE or LB that ive seen. There is a reason some of you arent the recruiting coordinator and LT is. Give the guy a shot.

Of course noone post a bad video of themselves. With that being said, in the video, the kid has a great eye to find the ball. A few of those were great fake plays and he was still right on top of the ball carrier. I like it.

Says the guy trying to compare his speed and eyes to 4 or 5 star DE's. LOLOLOL

While I am avid supporter of the team, I for one wasn't part of the hiring process and had no say in the head coach.

With that being said, I've supported Dooley and will continue to do so. Doesn't mean we the fans have to like every single decision he makes. I think he'll do fine but I am not going take everything Dooley does as gospel. I didn't agree with everything Kiffin and Fulmer did either. That doesn't mean I didn't support them or thought I could do a better job. It's no different than disagreeing with some of our presidents decisions. We all do that.

Rivals doesn't have him rated as a 4 star. The moronic Vols fans that go on there and overrate everyone have him as a 4 star.

Rivals doesn't have a rating.

I thought 4 was a little low so I rated him a 5 star

Actually rivals has him as a no stars! The four stars your seeing are user ratings of 18 people who have rated him.

I am drinking the Doolaid don't get me wrong but is anyone else worried we are getting stuck with LA Tech talent at a top tier SEC school? I know CDD can coach em up and the staff knows what they are doing. I just hope we aren't taking fliers on guys just to fill a class. We have had some strong commits since Dooley came on (Hunter, Loften, Neal). But then we get guys like this.

With all that being said Welcome to Volnation Mr Crump get ready to sing a little Rocky Top!

I think Lance Thompson knows what he is doing....if Lance likes him and his skill set.....then that should be good enough for any VOL fan right now!

I think that was the point I was trying to make.

Do not take it out on the kid and say he is not good enough for a scholarship (as was done in this thread) because they have no clue and

therefore we must trust the coach's decision in this process.

Definitely not taking it out the kid. I'm not anyways. I'm just hoping the coaching staff isn't just taking whoever will come without waiting on some of the bigger names that could commit. I'm sure they are saving enough spots for the big name guys they believe they have a legit shot at. I am hoping they are anyways. Would hate to miss out on a linemen like James Stone, Damien Robinson, Chaz Green, John Cullen etc. because all of the spots are filled.

I wonder if these naysayers will look back one day and think how crazy they were to doubt giving him a chance. This guy could be a proto-typical Al Wilson we just don't know at this time. If we get Rogers we will still have room for OLinemen. Just don't panic.

Heck yeah dude!

Wtf? Yeh Latech sure reels in those #7 classes. Whew!! A 3* is an all-conference player at LaTech, and 4*'s are their "Bryce Browns" You or I could recruit at UT and sign LaTech talent. Cmon man, whether you like him or not, or you like this class or not. Be smarter than that for yourself.

Cullen is out, Chaz is probably FL, we will probably get Stone, Glass. Robinson we may have a chance with if he visits.

so we should sign a short class (when we're already way behind on numbers) to wait on guys that won't come to UT? We need to fill space and obviously these guys think he can play

LOL i never said i should be the recruiting coordinator either, but i think with the training and weights and good coaching this kid will turn out to be a huge playmaker.

Volquest.com is reporting that four-star running back Raijon Neal has committed to Tennessee.

The number nine running back in the country according to Rivals.com took an official visit to Knoxville over the weekend and decommitted from Mississippi State. After follow-up meetings with head coach Derek Dooley and assistant Lance Thompson, Neal pledged to the Vols on Thursday.

He is the second UT commitment of the day. Calhoun, Georgia, quarterback Nash Nance switched his commitment from Vanderbilt to the Vols as well. Nance and his teammate, four-star receiver Da'Rick Rogers, visited Knoxville last weekend too. Tennessee is still hoping to pull Rogers from his commitment to Georgia.

If this kid wants to play for ut and our coaches (who have done this for years and know what it takes) think he can....then welcome aboard! I hope we sign him and he absolutely blows it up!

Agreed. We all seem to forget once we log on here that THE COACHES have these kids cell numbers and actually TALK TO the kids. They know what they are doing. Just because the James Stone (just an example) "thread" isn't lighting up, that doesn't mean we aren't closing the deal. The guy has us back to #7 for a reason. He's good. Look at the facts and forget the rest. DD's first proggress report is coming Wednesday. He's staring an A in the eyes. We shall see fellow vols, we shall see.

I am not going to be a sheep and blindly follow every decision made by a coaching staff of a team I pull for. I wasn't crazy about X's mouth, but I still loved UT. I wasn't thrilled with CPF and our slip into mediocrity, but I still loved UT. I may not like every recruiting decision made by the current staff, but I will still love UT. I have a right to have an opinion on recruiting and I realize I may be wrong at times. Citing the virtues of an Eagle Scout doesn't give me great insight into his ability. And EVERY player can find clips that look good on film. I just don't want us to lose a quality player because we are out of scholarships for non-ranked players. And let's be honest, if he was THAT great, SOMEBODY in the SEC would have been all over him by now.

we are still in it with christian jones and that guy is a beast so i say we leave this kid to the non bcs schools.. he doesnt even have any stars on rivals which means hasnt been rated yes but i say we hold off on accepting his commit for now

Hate to be fussy, but even though Crump has reportedly committed to UT, I haven't seen anywhere that we have given him an offer! Maybe I missed it somewhere.

The opinion of posters in the Crump thread is that Dooley & Co. are waiting to see what happens with Ralph Williams. If he stays with UT, then we already have 3 LB's w/o Crump. If Ralph goes, then we will prolly take Crump or Propst.
