More teams can say they made the tournament. Take UT for example. Fans on here will celebrate UT making the NCAA tournament in 2014 when in 2008 they would have been left out.

It waters down the event, imo.

Don't tell that to VCU. They played in the play-in game and then made the Final Four. While I wouldn't add many more than 68 teams, there is alot of parity in college basketball. While VCU is the exception and not the rule, this is only the 4th year. However, last year, LaSalle made the Sweet 16. To have a team advance to the Final Four from a play-in game solidifies that good teams barely make (or even don't make the NCAAT). JMO.

The "play-in" was created because there was uproar every year that a couple deserving teams were left out.

I'm all for no automatic bid personaly

I would rather automatic bids go to regular season conference champions not some team that gets hot an pulls off a couple upsets at the very end of the year. Although it is more exciting that way....

I don't mind it. But there should be some sort of standard that a team has to be at in order to earn the bid with a tourney win. It hasn't happened a lot, but I don't want to see teams with a sub .500 or barely above it get in.

NCAA doesn't determine who gets auto bid. That's up to each conference. Conferences like using the tournaments because they also generate revenue.

If we had just beaten A&M twice we would be sitting very pretty.

F'n frustrating

A&M, Vandy, Xavier, Missouri, a Texas El Paso-would have given us a shot at Iowa, NC State. These are the games that got away and may hurt us in the long run. The head to head with Xavier on a neutral site may help us.

Right. I just don't think it's as fair as awarding the regular season champion.

Right, you can name quite a few games, but turn the 2 A&M losses into wins and we are probably a 8 seed right now.

And a 2 seed in the SEC tourney to boot. A&M were winnable games, the Vandy game we were just flat no intensity and in the Mizzou game we was on the Coach. 4 players in foul trouble and failure to go inside or attempt to do so is unbelievable. Go 2-2 out of those four SEC games and we are in the NCAA and possibly 2 seeded in the SEC. In addition, Half the threads in this forum would never exist.

Easy now.

Just go into Live RPI - RPI wizard and change the Road Texas A&M game to a win and our RPI is 37.

Believe he was referring to the fact that it would take more than 2 fewer losses to get some folks not posting negative threads. :)

I am not trying to be negative. I know I have been super negative in the past. I am extremely disappointed with the inconsistency and I had high expectations for this years team.
But I looked at bracketology on ESPN today and noticed we are 10-11 against RPI Top 150. That really surprised me. I do want us to go to the tourney and I have always wanted us to win. But if we lose Saturday then we will have to go deep into the SEC tourney maybe even have to get to the finals to be considered for the NCAA. TX A&M may just have put CCM out of a job.

Even with higher preseason expectations than normal we may end up 3rd in the conference as projected and with a NCAAT at large bid, but the way we limped or backed into it will be the focus. The fact that this has been the norm for 3 seasons 2 without any expectations is what has gotten the masses in turmoil.

We limped into our soon to be destiny versus earning it. We Will have defeated Virginia, Arkansas, Xavier and hopefully Missouri in doing so Of which only 2 of these teams with less than a 50 RPI. (live rpi)

Tennessee appears hot right now, but was that because of the opponents. We will find out tomorrow. A win will give us a possible bump to a 43 RPI, and no worse than a 4 Seed in the tourney. Should be an interesting week ahead. If we are not playing next week on Friday then we are NIT Bound.

Big difference in just barely scraping by mediocre opponents as opposed to humiliating them by 28 plus points (Vandy, auburn). I really anticipate a similar outcome tomorrow to the 88-58 home game vs Kentucky. Guys are clicking.

I agree, however if regular season champs got the bid a lot of conferences would have to redo their schedules. Unbalanced scheduling is fine as long as it's just a banner and bragging rights. If it was for a tourney bid I would think most coaches would want as close to a round robin as they could get.
