LaTech player mentions Dooley

I am afraid that Derek is indeed a blue blood. If so, that is extremely difficult to overcome in that business.

Quotes from my buddy and former teammate in HS that played SEC ball for 4 years that worked with him at LSU

"Worked with him at LSU...blue blood who ain't a leader...trust me, the players probably see it and truly don't respect him and certainly don't fear him; both of which are requisite for a successful football team (SEE: Nick Saban formula for success)."

And

Unless your ass is playing in the Colonial League or Ivy League, you have to be straight crazy inasna with these players. Man, I HATED WORKING FOR NICK!!!! But, always knew it wasn't personal, it was business. He wasn't trying to be all buddy buddy with anybody! He just wanted to WIN and make his money! He carried himself like he would kick a player or coaches ass in a minute and dude, it worked! The players hated his ass but they loved to win too! Nick grew up working class in West Virginia, hard scrabble bruh! Dooley...well..let's just say he would have been the president of Sigma Phi Omega, winner of the Hugh O'Brian Award, Boy's State, student council president, had he lived in our hometown...you know what I'm talking about!"

About sums it up for me, these players are only reinforcing it.

If the players hate him, other coaches can't stand him and he is an *******. Wouldn't that fall in line of the descriptions of Nick Saban?

These are Dooley's seniors that are ranked. They may not of liked him but he can recruit some talent. I am finally buying in to him being a great rebuilding/ transition coach. Not sure he can get it done.

A large number of their contributors are either younger players that Dooley didn't recruit or JUCO transfers. They are not Dooley's team.

I don't like Dooley as our head coach, but I don't hate they guy....

But this is embarrassing to us in that LA Tech is undefeated and ranked #23. The same school where Dooley acquired a losing record.

i suppose he could have said he liked Dooley better than his current coach. That would have really proven something.

Who cares if a player doesn't like a former coach. If Saban leaves, his freshmen from this year will be singing the praises of the new guy in a couple of years and talking about how practice isn't like the military anymore.

Only Saban's players will likely have championship rings.

didn't Dykes bring in alot of Juco kids? Do you know how many of these kids were actually signed by Dooley?

Who's to say Dooley wouldn't be having the same success there this year?

It should not shock anyone that something like that is said. When your playing for/coached by a career losing coach, there is not many good things to say. The players at Tech feel they now have a coach who can compete and help them win. Dooley was not that guy. Sooner or later, people will realize the same thing here.

Can't argue with you there, but he had multiple losing seasons. Who's to say Dooley deserves the benefit of the doubt?

Not trying to start up shizz, but that tidbit just kinda blew my mind.

Wouldn't the players be the cause of the losing? The guys that are out there winning now are Dykes recruits for the most part.

This doesn't bother me if he's winning.

And he's not, or at least he hasn't defeated a top 25 opponent. Rich Rodriguez was an a-hole and a loser. Maybe Dooley isn't RR-level (he certainly doesn't look quite as hopeless), but one wonders if he has the stuff to make Tennessee "Tennessee" again.

Depending on what happens this year, I think it might be compelling enough to keep him around - particularly for the $$ we have invested.

It depends. It takes solid players that are well coached. You can have alot of talent, but the coaching sucks. You can also have a great coach, who wins will less talent. 9 of the 22 starters at Tech on offense and defense were signed by Dooley. He just could not have coached them up as well as Dykes has. Dooley could take a team of 15 5 star and 6 4 star players(starting) and lose to any team at any time. I have no doubt about that.

That can't be true, The Dooley supporters said LaTech is ranked because of Dooleys recruits. It has nothing to do with Dykes now.
It's funny that he can recruit decent talent at 2 schools but can't seem to coach them to win. Even one poster made the excus that with him being an AD/HC just put too much on Dooley.
