Dykes has been a smash hit in the player-relations department, too. Many of his older players are simply a whole lot happier than they were under Dykes’ predecessor, Derek Dooley, now at Tennessee.

“There was such a big change,” said center Stephen Warner. “Coach Dykes is a whole lot more personable than Coach Dooley was. He’s a guy who’s going to ask you how you’re doing when he passes you in the hallway, instead of not knowing who you are.”

Ouch—that’ll leave a mark on the previous regime. The Bulldogs also deeply prefer the current style of play; more than one of them believe the grueling camp-style drills the team would do throughout the season under Dooley may have led to more injuries as the games wore on.

I 100 pct guarantee Dooley knows all his players when he see's them. The last paragraph shows why they play at La Tech, can't even handle the practices

If a coach doesn't know who you are, then your most likely not a good player or he didnt recruit you.

These are Dooley's seniors that are ranked. They may not of liked him but he can recruit some talent. I am finally buying in to him being a great rebuilding/ transition coach. Not sure he can get it done.

“And our whole attitude is just better,” Warner said. “Anyone on this team would lay down whatever it took for this program. That’s a lot different from the way it was a few years ago—from ‘It’s about me’ to ‘It’s about us.’”

i suppose he could have said he liked Dooley better than his current coach. That would have really proven something.

Who cares if a player doesn't like a former coach. If Saban leaves, his freshmen from this year will be singing the praises of the new guy in a couple of years and talking about how practice isn't like the military anymore.

Agreed, definitely not sure he's a championship level coach.

I am afraid that Derek is indeed a blue blood. If so, that is extremely difficult to overcome in that business.

Bowl game vs NC few years back, talked to Bray after the game (at a little party) said he didn't like Dooley. *flameshield activated*

Everyone I've talked to that's had conversations with Dooley says he's a bit of an a-hole

I bet that would have shown up on the board for discussion.

Sure...one should be careful not to put too much stock in former player statements, but it falls into line with Dooley's reputation.

To be a good leader, you have to be successful. No one wants to stand behind someone who is only known for failing. Dooley still hasn't shown that he can lead this team or any other team to "the promised land". Until he does that, there will not be near as much support/belief in his system by the players, asst coaches, boosters, or media. There will always be a question of his leadership until he proves he is a good coach.

This Kidd is obviously a butt hurt prima donna. Oh and news flash, UT would stomp La Tech by 30 if we played them. What a little piece of **** that kid is, go cry to your mom about coach not putting you in.

I think this is fair.
