Last tune-up before SEC play. What do you want to see?

Winthrop is loaded with fast twitch girls....Their record of 6-6 is not great, but under a coach like coach Kim's high octane game, they could be formidable.... Note: my print mode is stuck in bold for now.

Gametime, unless we get into severe foul trouble with multiple players within the first five minutes, I'm not expecting Winthrop to be competitive beyond the first quarter. They'll be fired up for their LVFL coach, but that'll only take 'em so far. Tennessee has unfortunately let just about everyone they've played think for a few minutes that maybe they could hang, but once the Lady Vols get over their slow starts they've been off to the races on way overmatched teams.

I'm like you, though, in that I am a fan of athletes who obviously have a high ratio of fast-twitch muscle fibers going for them. Players like that can really be disruptive, and I'm SO glad we have a few of those on our current roster. Makes a huge difference!

I'm curious what instructions you put to AI to generate that image, and to which AI?
Interesting that their uniforms and racial features are diverse, but the uniform numbers are the same.

Would love to understand what went into that "creative" decision! I wonder if it assumed numbers were indicative of some meritocratic valuing of the individual.
(also, evidently, no shoe contract--so it's unaware of, or not taking advantage of, capitalism and product placement)

It'll be a blow out
I was thinking "smaller" in diameter, not weight, as being the reason for more misses. In a smaller (diameter) ball, the center sweet spot is necessarily smaller.

But that brings up another aspect of the airball problem that TV viewers usually can't see. How many airballs are directionally on target but come up short, and how many airballs actually miss wide of the rim? I hadn't considered that.

"Okay, Sports Science grad students looking for a dissertation project -- Volnation can't do all the work for you!" 🤷‍♂️ 🧑‍🏫 🧑‍🎓

evaluating misses is very simple
A ball on the right arc and on the right trajectory that goes :

Long or short misses ,,, it is mental ,,, usually not concentrating on the immediate shot,,the wrong focal point,, or something else on their mind(i.e...An opponent getting in their head trash talking, or a carrover from a coach's scolding or something they can't shake from their off-court happenings)

Left or right misses ,,, it is mechanical ,,, Elbow not in line with the target,,,bad follow through or the shot was disturbed or rushed

Factor in also the wrong mechanics for the shot environment

I don’t know if this is the right thread for this post but…I’ve been thinking about conference play, and I think we can all agree that if anything would make Pat turn over in her grave, it would be a loss to Vandy. I’m really curious about the LSU game. I’m a big Kellie fan, but I never had hope we would beat LSU. Now….I think we have a solid chance
of beating them. The game is in Knoxville? Last time I went to LSU vs LVs was in Knoxville a few years ago and I could hardly watch the game for Mulkey’s wardrobe shenanigans.

Ivocd, next season when this team gets an infusion of more fast twitch young ladies, like The Twins, Ms Civil, and several other fast twitch looking commits, it might be too much for us fans to endure....I mean the league will have never seen such speed that coach Kim will unleash on the mighty SEC and all points beyond....

Jada Civil.....Imagine her with 4 other speed demons..

Part. Of. The. Show.
I remember seeing The Globetrotters at the Civic Auditorium back in the day. For purists, they may have been frustrating, but I enjoyed the show.
Kim, like all successful coaches has learned the secret to success in coaching high profile female ballers,,,as did Pat, Geno, Tara, and MOST of the upper echelon coaches who do coach women

S/O to Coach Caldwell. This coach, her staff, and players have laid a foundation for present and future success.
Coach Caldwell has set a new standard.
Elite recruiting since Day 1 signing elite transfers from the portal and top prospects out of high school.
The #15/#13 ranked LVs in the Coach Kim era are loaded with athletes. Talent, athleticism, skill, and speed up and down the roster.
Highest scoring team in WBB. Leads WBB in steals and offensive rebounds per game.
Five players averaging double figures.

she will be the pick of the 25' litter and don't sleep on the wonder twins,,,they are driven!
I have been amazed by all of the 25s. This may raise some eyebrows, but to my eye, this class has more talent overall than Pat's prized Class of 2004. Obviously Candace Parker was transcendent and so we may never see another like her. But top to bottom? This 2025 class looks better as high school players to me than 2004 did. Now, some of that may be because players are generally better overall now than they were then. I don't know.

I do know I'm super excited about the immediate future of Lady Vol Basketball.

Regardless of the schedule, it truly IS impressive that a coach with only 1 year of D1 experience has come in and immediately signed top-notch players out of the portal, then top-notch players out of high school, is undefeated a third into the season, has risen from unranked to #15, and has obviously managed to capture the full attention of the world of women's basketball.

Caldwell is really something, y all. 🧡💪🏻

Question for Gametime: How do you determine who has "fast twitch" and who doesn't from a still picture?
Actually, upon a little research, fast twitch muscle mass is built by sprints and weight training while slow twitch is developed by cardio type training, swimming and distance running. So finding the proper blend would be important and critical to the training staff.

I want Winthrop to feel good about the check they receive. I want them to feel really bad about the way Tennessee beats them tomorrow. I am hoping for very strong play and effort for 40 minutes to get in the groove for Texas and late night ball.

Can't tell by a photo other than if you see a lean athlete with low body fat percentage you can almost assume they are more fast twitch than the slower twitch. Some of the slow twitch girls can still play well in the right program. Kim doesn't need any of them and yet she has two or three this season.

I definitely knew one exception to that decades ago. There was a girl basketball player who was 6 feet tall (considered super tall back then) and very thin with unusually long arms and legs. She would have tested today as having a low body fat percentage. She was a good enough player to earn a full scholarship to MTSU. Yet, this girl was so slow in her movements. Try as she might to go faster, she obviously probably had few, if any, fast-twitch fibers in her muscles. Glaciers have more quicks than she did.
