You can't possibly convince me that the last play counted, there was a penalty on the spike, meaning it was not a legal play, which means the game was over. We did in fact win this game. No I'm not saying this to try to make myself or anyone else feel better, I am saying this because it's the truth. By rule the clock CANNOT stop on an offensive penalty, had there been a defensive penalty UNC would have been allowed 1 un-timed down. The result of the game should be overturned, it won't be because that's how it is but, forgetting about everything that led to that point, the game should have ended due to the illegal participation penalty, end of story. 20-17

If we can kick an extra point we do not even have overtime. They got a penality for too many men on field. We got a 15 yrd penalty for running into the kicker. Which was carried over to the overtime period. They started on the 12 1/2 yrd line. We started on the 25.

I just can't believe we could get screwed by this rule both ways this year. I was thinking this myself. Seems like the referee should have never let him spike the ball until those guys got off the field. I don't know but that was about the worse way we could end the year in my mind.

Can someone explain to me why the clock stops on an offensive dead ball penalty, when the clock was running prior to the snap? Technically the spike never took place because the penalty occurred at the time of the snap.

This sums it up. Count the UNC players participating in the play. 12 players = 15 yard illegal part. penalty.

UT got the p penalty for a player throwing his helmet down on the field after they made the field goal. The same thing that happened at the end of the lsu game (wasnt called) and the samething happened against bama last year and it wasnt called. Can anyone explain why they decided to call it on us?

Guys, I know it is hard to deal with the loss, but we must move on. I too, am sick about the loss and how we lost but nothing we can say or do will change anything. Our team competed well against a good team. Things didnt go our way AGAIN but this is sports. Lets be grateful for having a team that has improved over the season and has loads of potential. GBO beat Montana in '11.

It should've been called, but I don't think it should've been carried over to the OT. If you remember a few years ago Eric Berry had his head ripped off in OT against Kentucky. The refs called the facemask but said that since that OT period was over they would not carry the penalty over to the next OT period.

My question is since it was an offensive penalty that was followed by a running play, not a passing play, the clock should have started at the snap of the ball; therefore making the snap and the kick impossible. Also if you go look at the replay of the catch a count 1001, 1002, etc. you will see that when the man hits the ground you will hit 1006, thus making it 25 seconds left not 26

Even if the clock were to run following an offensive penalty, it would be restarted once the ball got set. 1 second is enough time to snap the ball once it's set.
