Last night’s sticker fiasco

Well, look at it this way......honestly, some VU fans will say "good for Corbin, finding a way to get an edge". But for me, I would not want TV to call on what appears to many to be a silly technicality to wipe off a player's home run. It just feels petty and sissy to me and I don't wish to win a game against the "VU boys" in that way. Just feels prissy to me.

Absolutely - it's bush league. In other words, It's Vandy. That's what they do.

This is D1 baseball. It's competitive. Expect the opposing team to comply with the rules or suffer consequences if they don't. Would you expect Corbin or Coach V to not appeal if a runner scores from third on a sacrifice fly but did not properly tag-up? Having legal equipment is not a silly technicality.

Some silliness? He deliberately and knowingly violated the rules, then lied about it to enforcers. He should have been canned on the spot when he confessed to the AD that he had lied to the NCAA investigator.

This is completely different in that it is silliness. Stickers are a stupid system to keep up with bat verifications.
Sorry if I was not more clear. The silliness I was referring to was on the part of BP doing something really stupid leading to his firing. I'm not saying TV cheated, but if he did it would be just as dumb of a thing to do, if not worse because it was actually during a game.

Moral of the story. Don’t lie about a minor infraction that doesn’t mean ish. Secondly, if you lie continue the lie. Lol. This isn’t about Pearl. Has nothing to do with Pearl.

A bat issue where a damn sticker fell off and Corbin is a clown. Bat wasn’t a loaded bat.

Glad this got its own thread because I think there are some serious things about this to discuss. Don't get me wrong, I'm all Vol all the time, but let's try to look at this without our orange glasses on.

Honestly, if it were the opponent, would you really believe the other head coach would not be aware of the stickers? How would you view it if the other coach came storming out demanding they give him the suspect bat back? What about admitting they found several other bats without the stickers?

I want us to win, win big, win always, and I'm loving this team and this coach. I don't want it all torn down by scandals and outside forces using these accusations, true or not, against us.

Lastly, if the bat was tested, passed and the sticker came off, that should be made public to remove any doubt. And they need a more failsafe process than relying on a darn sticker applied by the host team.

Candy checked the bats and UT was given stickers to put on the bats. There's a whole process for this and people are in place to make sure this is done correctly. If the sticker fell off, that's on the UT people.

Vandy supplied the stickers. Does anyone check that the stickers really stick on a bat. Is there a rule about that.

Corbin’s an ******* and always has been. He has accused UT of cheating before. He is scared that UT was going to get good. Guess what we are and he can’t handle it.

I realize that it's mostly youngsters on here, and you probably don't remember the "Pine Tar Game" at Yankee Stadium between the Royals and Yankees from 1983... but I wish Beck would have gone off like George Brett did. That's how you handle this crap. Just fly out of the dugout raising hell with a big wad of chew in your mouth.

Maybe it's just the child of the 80's in me... but I've always thought that was cool. Keep in mind, nobody dared to call George Brett out for too much pine tar again.

Stickers aren't all gonna stick. Some will fall off. Using stickers to verify the bats is just asking for this kinda thing to happen. Verifying the bats before batting practice is silly.

I feel pretty sure that CTV would not have said anything if he knew a sticker was off of a vandy bat and they hit a home run. The bat was not illegal the bat did not have a vandy sticker on it.

I suspect you are right if he was coaching his grandson's t-ball team. But to knowingly fail to challenge a "stickerless" bat under Friday's circumstances, at this stage of the game, series, and season, would be coaching malpractice.

Do you have that in writing? Makes a bit less than zero sense to hand a bunch of stickers to a team to apply at will to their own bats. Just the ability to palm a couple and put them on bats that were not touched in the review process is over the top. Where did you get this info? Don't need a name, just a connection to the facts ID.

I know we have won the first two and am hoping for a sweep, but before we just walk away I hope somebody answers what I believe are the most important questions.

Was THIS bat submitted to the initial bat testing process?

Was THIS bat protected by officials and did the bat pass the tests in the presence of a UT rep after it was taken on the field?

If it passed the first time, how was the tamper proof sticker not on the bat? You would think dirt would stick to the adhesive residue, but I don't know the construction.

If it is important enough to change sports history in a spotlight game it is important enough to expedite a final resolution. Honcho will never get that HR back and we need to know if that was only due to a process failure. If we did not submit the bat it is on us. If we did there are other issues. Somebody has some integrity on the line.

We will probably never know exactly what happened. But one of the strangest aspects is Beck's comment that he noticed a sticker come off his bat during batting practice, but didn't think much of it. Given Beck's experience, this doesn't make sense to me. He has to know that his bat has to be "stickered" if he intends to use it in a game.

This bat from what I've read had gone through the process and still had a sticker from the Western Carolina game on it. If this bat was taken and doctored to an illegal bat from late Wednesday or early Thursday and loaded for the trip to Nashville that would have been an incredible feat this day and time. Corbin IMO was looking for any kind of edge because he knows he's outmanned but that's what these types of coaches do, Belichick et al have lived on the edge for years looking for an advantage, IMO if you win like this it's a hollow victory if you have a soul but I digress.

Huge difference between MLB and NCAA. In MLB, the players association run the sport practically. In NCAA, players have few rights. Beck would have been suspended for the season by either NCAA or SEC if he’d gone “Brett”. The best response was what he did later, drove the ball in the gap to score 2 runs.
