Larry Scott at OC might be what everyone secretly wants

Which NFL assistant interviewed??? Other than weinke....just saw something on BR but it's VIP info

I was very down on the Vols this year after we lost to USC. I was a negavol, but now I believe CBJ should be given the benefit of the doubt (injures.)
I think our offense was fine and the were a sh** ton of injures on defense. I think Larry Scott will make a good OC, everyone wants someone with play calling experience, but how does a coach get playcalling experience? By someone having faith in that person and hiring them as their OC. There are A LOT of coaches who have gotten their 1st OC job at the power 5 level and been great OCs, we just have to hope CLS is one of them.

Yep. Randy Sanders did well when he was promoted

Technically Scott has called plays at the high school level. He has been run game coordinator at several stops and had a lot of input into the offense during his time as interim coach at Miami. Lol. I'm not sure that makes anyone feel much better but there it is.

The thing is if I were Butch I would absolutely want a guy with a lot of experience as a play caller.

Where has Larry Scott spent his time every single game this season? In the booth with Debord. im sure we will be ok. i mean if it doesnt work out Butch will get fired..isnt that what all you nega vols want anyways? So stop complaining, strap in, and enjoy the ride.

Passing game was much better, much more dynamic and effective this season. As OC, he should get credit for that imo.

What I saw was more players making plays than anything in the scheme. Except for the Malone TD in the Florida game and having Hurd and Kamara in the back field at the same time and having Hurd do the wheel route. Those were good window dressing moves, but we didn't see that or that sort of thing often enough.

Somebody from Cleveland's staff I believe...Durden?

I looked at the Browns coaches and the only one that would make sense would have been pep Hamilton, but he just accepted a job at Michigan. No one else on that staff coaches QB's.

Who's the nfl assistant that interviewed for Tennessee? It's on 247 and don't have access

Kevin O'Connell, served as a special projects assistant for the 49ers. O'Connell, a Knoxville native, spent the 2016 season with the 49ers after serving as the Cleveland Browns' quarterbacks coach in 2015. He's also a former quarterback who spent time with the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers during a five-year NFL career.

It was Kevin O'Connell. FORMER Browns
QB coach...just let go by San Francisco.

Edit: Saw this was already clarified.

I know comparing our program to alabama takes the joy away from enjoying our own successes and failures, but....... alabama lost an OC and hired one literally 1 minute later a WEEK before the national championship. UT loses an OC and no one knows who or when the "next man up"will be hired. Saban is already thinking about next year and he wanted cohesiveness as soon as possible. Why is this???? No one wants the job?? Cmon man

Um, Bama lost to Clemson.

I haven't gone back and watched any video of 2015, but one thing I noticed watching some video from this is in the run game we had a lot of double teams at the point of attack allowing our backs to get to the second level.. if that is something that Scott brought to the table being run game coordinator then I think he will do just fine as oc

I don't think Butch thinks like Winston Churchill. :)

Hear me out.

So, while a large portion of posters believe they know what OC is "best" for our coaching staff and team, I have faith in Butch (Negas get off here). Debord worked out great as OC (see record book) but fans were increasingly disappointed in recruiting. Debord was not known as a recruiting powerhouse, but like his scheming and play calling, I think this was under appreciated.

At last, enter Larry Scott. Everything a state of Florida stargazer could wish for. Recruiting prowess drips from every word. However, he has no track record calling the plays. This worries me personally, but again I have faith in CBJ. But he could potentially bring in some real talent.

So just ask your self these questions: do I want a guy that everyone knows or a guy that works well with Butch? Do I want a known recruiter or a known play caller? No cheating, don't say both to each question because this is not madden. See AD and hotseat situation. Both situations don't have to be this way. AD could be hired ASAP and Butch should not even be considered for the hotseat.

I think a promotion from within is what may save CBJ at this point (although that probably sounds too optimistic for this board). As everyone already knows, we hired out for our D.C. last season and we struggled. Seats are getting a little warm in Knoxville and I don't think Butch can afford to have another season of adjustments. If Coach Scott knows what he has to do then hand him the keys.

I'm beginning to think that nega means open to reason, also sees with clarity.

Not the case at all.

"secretly" might should be , unknowingly should want, as for me I want an OC/QB coach hire that makes Rock and Shoop look like a rookie move.

Release the Beast!

Go Vols!
