As I got to looking at some of the teams that have Florida trouble in the past i noticed a few key things.
1. Of course you need a talented quarterback but not just any QB. Tall pocket passers have caused FLA trouble. (ex. Stafford 07, Henne 07,Flynn 07, Brandon Cox in 06 and 07 had big games against the gators.) running QB's dont have success against fla because their defense is all speed. You got to have a pocket passer to throw the ball to..................................
2. BIG TALL POSSESSION RECIEVERS... this is where kiffin's system could do damage to the small, quick gator db's. Michigan showed everybody in 07 bowl game that if you got recievers that can run great routes and catch the ball then you can throw it all over florida. their db's are so small they cant defend the tall reciever. (ex. Arrington 07, Manningham 07, Massaquoi 07, Lafell, Hodge 08) you cant attack florida with speed you need the tall recievers.
3. MOST IMPORTANTLY....... A Great D-Line. The toughest thing to do is stop the gators offense. Lets look at some teams that have beat FLA over the years. (UGA 07,LSU 05 07, Ole Miss 08, Auburn 06 07) These teams all had GREAT d-lines. Just go back and look at it. If you get penetration you can stop the quick backs before they get going. Just like Oklahoma in NC title game. At Ole Miss this past year, where did those great d line men come from???? ED ORGERON!!! If he can recruit the same type of players to Tenn we will be in great shape.
4. At least break even on special teams. Florida has made a living off of blocked kicks and returns for td's. You don't have to beat them but just neutralize them then you have taken away a major strength for them.

I REALIZE those are all points of weakness for us this year but if kiffin gets the players he wants at WR and QB. And Orgeron cleans up on D line i fully expect us to give FLA fits the next few years. Of course running the ball and having great O- Line and secondary are needed but having the type of QB, WR's and D-ine that we appear to be going after will give us a leg up on fla and take away the main part of their team.......SPEED!SPEED!SPEED! Don't try to out run FLA you can't. Thats whats got so many teams beat against them. It's like when Pearl first started at UT. The teams that gave us the most trouble were teams that made us play THEIR style of play. When teams tried to outrun us it backfired. Same thing with FLA football.

Nice first post....Welcome to Volnation!

I agree and I think we will give them trouble this year if we can get one of our quarterbacks to play well.

What happened to Stafford in '08?

Oh yeah, that's right... 3 INTs, no TDs and didn't even complete 55% of his passes.

Welcome to the board.

Agree on all of your points. It will be a whole lot easier when Tebow leaves that school.

just so you don't get a big head, that post was terrible. You need to post many, many more times to get up to par with the rest of VN.

Kidding, welcome aboard :hi:

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ here, but in case I read your post wrong, your keys to beating Fla. are:

Offensively- To establish control of the line of scrimmage, give the qb adequate time to set up in the pocket and throw to much taller WR's downfield, and to keep the defense on the field and or on their heels for long as possible through a series of long sustainable scoring drives.

Defense- To prevent penetration by the running attack by clogging up the running lanes with defensive linemen; apply aggressive pass coverage that defeats their overall team speed, being ever mindfull not give up any points, big plays, or huge chunks of yardage.

Special teams- Maintain discipline in blocking assigments, and coverage responsibiliries while preventing turnovers and penalties.

Hmmm...it might work. I'm just curious why nobody has tried it before.

I think Fulmer tried that unsuccessfully on numerous occasions, lets hope CLK has some new wrinkles to stick it to FL with

Being a Buc fan.. I can tell you that it's not easy to find the right people to play his style of Defense. I don't think it was the Tampa Two that got Tebow to throw those two picks in the NC game. There was a lot of hype and nerves and he made 2 bad throws. It will take more than 1 year to get your players to buy into this system. Yes, you do have talent, but it will NOT be a close game in 2009. Kiffin will have to take his lumps until he gets enough talent/guys that get his system, to enable the Vols to compete. 2010 should be a great game, though. You might have a chance since it's in Knoxville. I might just have to come up for that one!

Im sad to hear that we have pissed off the mighty CUM and that he is going to hang "100" points on us this year. But I am very happy that someday we MIGHT have a chance to win one game against the unbeatable Gators. Also I am happy you might be able to come up to the game we might have a small chance to win. :)
