Hamilton probably wrote the most coach friendly contract in the history of coaching contracts. This made it insanely easy for USC to get him and also made him more attractive for them to hire away. That debacle was mostly on Mike Hamilton. Now Kiffin is a scumbag for the way he left and how he handled things afterwards. He's a great offensive mind but he has hellacious baggage still.

Hindsight, the admin should have given keys to Kippy after Lane bolted (again no surprise since he had told Hamilton he would go to USC if offered - no one thought it would come open a year later). Kippy could have held recruiting class together and prolly have done alright as coach, but buys us a year to figure it out and decide the next step instead of panic hiring Dooley.

Horrible ADs since Doug Dickey and Bob Woodruff have dug this hole. I wish Currie would lay down the shovel for a minute.

I thought this at the time and said as much. Still think Kippy would have rallied recruits and coached the team up to win games. Think he would have been a keeper or left us better off.

The first two games of the 2017 season have been a foreign adventure for Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin.

For the first time in his coaching career, Kiffin isn’t calling plays on offense. He isn’t focused on the quarterbacks. He didn’t install his own playbook. Those responsibilities have fallen to offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, who brought Baylor’s offensive system to Boca Raton.

So Kiffin, who has made a reputation tailoring offenses to specific quarterbacks and a living as one of college football’s best play-callers, is left more uninvolved on game days.

“It’s tough,” Kiffin said. “You’re just used to it. It’s like a taxicab driver riding in the passenger seat. You’re used to calling plays, moving guys around, doing different things. I do think it’s allowed me to do better at different things. But Saturday’s painful.”

Kendal Briles has brought the offense to FAU in his first season as the Owls offensive coordinator. He also doesn’t have a playbook, an anomaly in a sport that can sometimes get bogged down with complexity.

FAU coach Lane Kiffin said he’s always had a physical playbook for his offenses, most recently when he was the offensive coordinator at Alabama for the past three seasons. Previously, he directed offenses at USC and Tennessee.

The onus to teach the offense falls on Briles. Kiffin said he learned the offense from film study, cutups and drawings.

Kiffin jumped the gun today when he thought Doeren was hired and announced he did not want the job. Said He wanted it 2 weeks ago but not now. Currie is off the hook with that idiot and can say Lane declined interest when in fact UT never showed interest. Big boosters will not accept Kiffin - all the Kings horses and all the Kings men cannot put Humpty Dumpty together again. More or less.
