Lane on Departures

8-4 is probably right...new energy, and the departures will happen no matter what school you're at. there are always some that will leave or be asked to leave. gotta win from day 1 nowadays, so people do what they have to do without worrying much about who it affects.

Welcome. :hi:

Which USC?

ahh come on...we're not that bad i think most visiting teams say we're pretty nice and hospitable as a whole.

 same here. but i wouldn't be surprised at 7-5 either. anything less, would be a huge let down imo.

I don't expect 9 wins but it wouldn't be a huge shock if Tennessee did. We have a really weak schedule this year.

8-4 or 7-5 sounds about right.

Florida and Bama away is not what I call weak. Two biggest rivals on their home turf. Ack!

Your talking about a team that lost to Wyoming at home!!!!!!!!!!

We will be better, but don't get too cocky.

Had Tennessee not attempted a forward pass they win that game. I have faith the new coaching staff will realize what this offense can and can't do :p

"we have a plan of how we want to do things," said kiffin. "we had that same approach at usc when we got there. They were 5-7 the year before just like tennessee was last year. Now they've gone to 8 straight bcs bowls using that plan and that's what we want to do."

Boom!!!

i would be surprised only because i just can't get my head around us not having a hiccup or two along the way being that it's the 1st year and all.

if everything comes together, and if they get the most out of everything we have, and if we don't make mistakes....then 9-3 is doable.

but that's a lot of ifs for a team that has its share of question marks to begin with.

I would trade in a loss to USC and Ole Miss t
For a victory over UF!!!

almost any record with a win over florida would be satisfactory.

satisfactory? I think you're talking wet dream category.

I can just imagine UT winning in the Swamp and the residents of this board posting about the satisfactory feelings you were having.

This place would go berserk.

That about sums it up.

Just like the days of 30+ year coaches at a major program are over, the days of a major program allowing a 5 year window to get things going are also over.

And we are not really "a work in progress" or a "rebuilding project". We had a team that lost the mental game last season. We're a team with plenty of skill position talent (sans QB) and better-than-most talent across the roster.

We've got a rock star coaching staff that fully understands winning is everything - it is truly the only thing. If we go the next three years without being in the national mix, then I'd be surprised.
I hope that coaching makes enough of a difference to push UT up to 9 or 10 wins without any blow outs. Next year will be very rough then I think UT can compete with UF, LSU, and Bama after that if the staff is as good as we hope.

CPF had two historically poor recruiting classes that are part of this particular team. Complicating the overall lack of top shelf talent is that even in the good years they did poorly with OL and DL. On avg... UT is pretty average right now in the SEC in terms of talent. Average teams can win with exceptional coaching but the SEC is full of good coaches.

This is a really tough year to call. The first line talent is still there but there's absolutely no depth. Right now, next year doesn't look so tough to call... it looks like a real stinker.

Kiffin like the Saban's and Meyer's of the world are "professionals" or "mercenaries" depending on your perspective. They will move to step up their careers or make more money. The caviat is that UT's pockets are as deep as anyone's if he is successful and likes living in K'ville. Also, CLK isn't universally popular at USC for some reason.

It is quite incredible that, having never brought a team to a winning season as a head coach, that some fans place Kiffin on the same plane as proven championship coaches. As delusional as Bammer fans have always been, I am totally perplexed by the number of UT fans that have made Kiffin into something he is not. The only people in the country that would use the term "professional" or "mercenary" to describe a coach with the resume of Kiffin in any other situation would be labeled "insane". Many of us can accurately describe the hiring of Chizik at Auburn as "laughable", yet we are unable (or unwilling) to look at our own situation as the same. We attack any and everyone who may suggest that Kiffin was a poor hire, and describe them as being "afraid of UT" or "bias towards UT". It's all bull$^it, and unfortunately the day of reckoning will soon be at hand and these same folks will turn on LK like Judas. It is going to be ugly.

Nobody wanted Kiffin. There is a reason no other schools were beating down his door. And it is the same reason CLK is not popular at USC. The problem is many (at least on VN) have propagated the "myth" that Kiffin played a major role in the success of USC. He was a decent assistant at best, but folks continue to throw any objectivity out the window and replaced it with illusion. Kiffin was not and will never be what he has become in the minds of many fans.

Santa is not real. And Kiffin is not a "great" coach or even a leader. These are facts.

These are not yet facts it is an opinion same as those who believe Kiffin to be great. Time will tell, until then don't confuse your opinion as fact.

Kiffin's record is a matter of fact. Kiffin's resume has been accurately recorded. These are facts.

proven wrong many times yet you continue to post the same crap.

Pete Carroll disagrees with your "facts".

Yes in 2010 the bill for the past few seasons under Fulmer will finally come due and it won't be pretty. This ain't no tweaking and it will all be better, this is a complete body off restoration of the program and probably a few years late start. The car is drivable this year and may look okay from 50 feet, but the engine needs a complete overhaul and there's tons of rust under the paint. It will either get totally restored or junked. Hopefully Kiffin can get the job done.

Again, you are delusion. Please name the college teams that offered Kiffin a HC job. You are exhibit A.

I hope to God you haven't based your entire opinion of LK based on comments from his former boss....because of course, it is very very rare that a coach might say something good about a former assistant. Good grief people.

the fact you think this team is talented enough to win 9+ games this season speaks volumes about how seriously i should take your expectations.

name how many teams in the SEC we're better than at qb? and of those, are any of them named FLorida, LSU, GA, or Alabama?

at WR?
at OL?
at DL?
at RB?
at DB?
at LB?
at special teams?

the two positions where i think we would rank in the top 1/4 of the conf is DB and RB. after that........we're middle of the road or worse.

First off, the fact that you make up information speaks volumes about you. Please feel free to search and show me where I have EVER said this team should win 9+ games next season. You can't. So please stop with the drama.

It's not a difficult concept, but I'll try to explain it once again for you. This team will be favored in 8 games next season. I expect them to win the games they are supposed to win. Thus, my expectation is for them to win 8 games. Any more would be a great accomplishment for this team and cause for celebration. Any less would be a disappointment.

Second off, if you think UGA and UAT have a big advantage over us at QB that confirms some things for me.
