"Look, we expect a lot in our system and we're never satisfied," said Kiffin. "Some guys can handle that and some can't."

"We're not trying to run people out of our program," continued Kiffin. "Often when you have change that alone is enough to make some kids want to go a different direction. Some stick around and try it, don't like it and then leave."

"I didn't want anyone to leave, but probably every year there will some that do for various reason."

"We have a plan of how we want to do things," said Kiffin. "We had that same approach at USC when we got there. They were 5-7 the year before just like Tennessee was last year. Now they've gone to 8 straight BCS Bowls using that plan and that's what we want to do."

"We've got a lot of scholarships to give and we expect to have the #1 class in the country next year," said Kiffin.

I'm getting really anxious to see this staff on the field. A lot of people have good plans, plays, people etc. but until all things come together and start moving in the same direction it's just more coach talk.

Riiiight.

That would be selfish in itself and I don't think that he really WANTED anyone to leave. He knew it would happen, but I don't think he sat around hatching this diabolical plan to rid the team of people. He expects a lot and if people can't deliver then they leave. He took over a program that hasn't recruited more than maybe 2-3 playmakers on offense in years and honestly who knows how good our defense really is based on the offenses we played last year. Addition by subtraction here really.

"My goal is to go a whole week and not make the news on ESPN," laughed Kiffin. "I haven't done that yet, it seems, since I've been here."

 i love this...

I understand him saying it.... but I think he did 'want' to get rid of the chaff. Not a diabolical plan no, but a realistic goal of gaining schollys through attrition.

Not evil. Just disengenuous.

That's whats simmering just beneath the surface with Lane. I don't mind though, if it nets the program the success he promises.

Expecting and wanting are two different thoughts though. I don't think I would ever believe he wanted to lose players because of being thin anyways, but I don't think he expected all to be here when the dust settled either.

It could be insincerity...but it could also be that he wanted everyone currently on scholly to perform up to a championship level. If that happened we would certainly all be happier now.

In the scope of things I'm pleased that this all seems to be happening before the first snap. Better to do it now than to see sulking on the sidelines.

OK, yes, I do think he wanted that to happen. I also think he knew it wouldn't pretty quickly. Heck he laid down the law to the O-linemen in early January. He knew he had a good number that weren't tall enough to ride this ride.

We knew too. Though I personally did not realize to what degree till the start of this year...

Lexy, he's on a thin line with me.

I don't think you are completely unjustified with your stance. I do think there are extenuating circumstances to the previous dismissals including Papa's surgery.

I understand that we want these guys to all be of the "championship mindset," and that weeding them out is probably good, but we do need at least enough players to have an 11 on 11 drill in practice for first and second teams. We're running out of tackling dummies.

That is the paradox of competition.

If we can actually do this, does anyone think Kiffin will stick around or head back to the NFL or to USC when Pete Carroll is done? If we accomplish this I would like to think he is in for the long haul. I bet we go through a lot of assistant coaches though.

No. He'll move on, resume firmly reconstructed.

That's OK though.

I got to admit, Coach Kiffin says all the right things at the right time....He expects the #1 recruiting class this season...I honestly would not put it past him to get that done although they have a strange way of recruiting that I can't understand but hey they KNOW what they are doing while the rest of us speculate on what they are doing....Damn I can't wait for football season!

:lolabove:

Losing 10 players isn't all that bad (especially players like Paige). I don't even know if he would be on the second team. At one receiver spot, Quintin Hancock, Denarius Moore, and Brandon Warren are all ahead of Paige. I can see why he left, but I don't think we will miss him.

Well, you also have to think about the fact that Monte probably won't be around that long (just because of age). If he leaves after 4-5 seasons, that frees up a lot of money to throw at Kiffin to keep him here, not to mention the amout of money that will come in from boosters to keep him. I hope he will stay, but you never know these days.
