Lane Kiffin thanks Tennessee fans for support during coach search

I’d have sent another nasty email if we’d hired Kiffin.

He honestly hasn’t done much to deserve the slobbering love affair some fans have with him. He had a good first year in FL but how long will it last?

The man's a wrecking ball, if he doesn’t blow up the field professionally he does it personally with the crap he pulled in Bama with Saban's daughter.

I want him as far from UT as possible

Smooth talks his way into the UT job and promising to bring his fine father along with him. Brings in what we thought was a great staff.

Fan base was fired up like I don't remember when, maybe almost as much CFP's National Championship.

Things looked promising for Vol fans for a while, many turned their heads or put on their orange tinted glasses and defended his every move for what?

For a man that left us for his dream job at the worse possible time. Did what he could to ruin what recruiting class we had. Left the young men he made promises to, and the football program as dead.

I do not love or respect him as a coach, nor can I forgive him. Just wish media would forget he was ever here.

People who blame Kiffin for leaving need only look in the direction of Mike Hamilton and any other persons who were responsible for giving Kiffin a ridiculously low buyout to leave for USC. He was given a free pass to leave UT on the day he signed with UT.

Don't blame Kiffin for doing what could have been predicted would happen the day he signed.

What should we do, over look the NCAA sanctions he left us with. Maybe his staff the night they were leaving calling the recruits and telling them not to come to UT.

The list goes on. Hey I am not his fan especially after he left and wanted to humiliate us by trying to get UT to play USC while we were down because of him.

The cartoon was better.

Made me feel like a NC trophy.

Somebody has to hold that line. Bitter him than me. If he is never a coach here again I'll be ok. I do like his dad. What is Monte up to these days?

I am not sure what Monte is doing these days, Hopefully he is well, enjoying retirement and spending time with his grandchildren.

I don't think most of our fans wanted him back. But it only takes enough noisy ones to give that impression.

I want to believe that our fan base isn't that stupid.

Shows how bad it was when news broke that Greg Schiano was going to be the new Vols HC, we were wanting to rehire the guy who was responsible for the most damaging stint in Tennessee football history.

LOL...we hired that guy to be our AD

Many of the fan base that I have had discussions with claim a "moral Victory" over bama in 2009. They swear he beat Saban's Bama team and could do it about every year. That's why they want him. That's all they seem to care about or remember.

Forgotten is 4-4 SEC mark. 7-6 overall Blowout loss to Ole Miss 17 - 42, took overtime to get by UK. Man handled in Chick-fil-a bowl by Va Tech.

Can't let go, eh? I felt that way when I finally traded in my old frog green Datsun many years ago. Still ran trouble-free but I had a thing for Ford Bronco at the time, so. . .but it was hard to drive off leaving the Kermit Kar on the dealer lot. But I did it, I let it go, I let it go, I let it go. Yes, I did. Some people can, and some people can't or won't. But I did let it go. I also let a. . . uh, "generous" college girlfriend go. She insisted I remain in California after graduating. Heck no! She was Campbell soup-ummmm good and I hated giving her up but I let it go. Sorry you can't.

I know I'm in the minority here, but the guy had a chance at his dream job from day 1. It sucked for us in 09 but it is what it is. If I'm coaching at say, a Oklahoma (great job) and the Tennessee job opened up, I'd probably leave. Nothing against OU.

The Tennessee fans (like me) that would have welcomed him back to win I think are in the right. The folks that say screw him, I'd never have him back.. I get that too. Nothing wrong with that.

I think he'll get one more big time job and I personally will be excited to see how it works out.

Kiffin would have gotten his shot to take over USC further down the road. I think he regrets leaving Knoxville after one year because it’s been nothing but bad karma for him ever since. He had it great here, he’s realizing that now.

Hey Johnny, How many titles have you gotten us since he has been gone?

All I know is that I got 3 SEC titles to his two. All I know is that I left him a team loaded with talent and depth IN ALL AREAS and he left his successor with a fraction of what he inherited. All I know is that from 2002-2008 we got our azzes handed to us by every major SEC rival AT HOME and had two losing seasons in his last four. All I know is that I actually have a coaching tree, unlike him. Want to hear any other facts while we're at it?

Yeah, actually I do. Who has been better since. I will not argue facts at things went off track without in my opinion (Cutcliffe) as OC. I would have preferred in hindsight of CPF having another year to right the ship over what we have had.

One more thing before you go Johnny, Did you really support Greg Schiano for the head coaching position at UT?

If we didnt have who we have calling the shots Kiffin would have been a finalist for HC.

Horse Hockey! I doubt there is a whole lot John Currie and Phil Fulmer would agree on. But the one thing they had in common was neither would have hired Lane Kiffin. I can guarantee you he will never coach Tennessee again.
