Shows how bad it was when news broke that Greg Schiano was going to be the new Vols HC, we were wanting to rehire the guy who was responsible for the most damaging stint in Tennessee football history.

I told the gump I know, that we should hire Saban, as a joke.

I would have went with a VFL that's a ball coach.

Throwing the dice is throwing the dice. I expect Fulmer to be a mentor to our 1st time HC.

I expect wins this year.

We should practice in extreme conditions more often.

Doing whatever he can to clean up his image. It's all for the next job offer.

One of Lane's biggest failures as a coaching candidate is the mess he created by his immaturity and disrespect at UT followed by the train wreck left behind after walking out year 1. Couple that with failure at all three of his big time head coaching gigs, and that cools his image to potential suitors. Magnifying the minor amount of love among UT fans helps to diminish one of his three major negatives.

Would not have minded getting Kiffy, in spite of his baggage. He is unquestionably a recruiter and offensive master mind - and his twitter trollfu is in a class all its own.

That said, i think we got the Defensive equivalent in CJP - without the mouth. His record as a DC at the top 3 current powerhouses in the South (Bummer, Semenoles, Puppies) is simply obscene. Oh, and he happened to be #1 recruiter of the year nationally at TWO different schools. I have a sincere feeling he is going to be something special if the cards fall right.

True this. But, lets not get carried away with "we". It was a vocal minority of fans who wanted him. Younger fans far more than older. Once Phil was brought in and stabilized the train wreck search, Kiffin disappeared from the conversation.

Smooth talks his way into the UT job and promising to bring his fine father along with him. Brings in what we thought was a great staff.

Fan base was fired up like I don't remember when, maybe almost as much CFP's National Championship.

Things looked promising for Vol fans for a while, many turned their heads or put on their orange tinted glasses and defended his every move for what?

For a man that left us for his dream job at the worse possible time. Did what he could to ruin what recruiting class we had. Left the young men he made promises to, and the football program as dead.

I do not love or respect him as a coach, nor can I forgive him. Just wish media would forget he was ever here.

I know I'm in the minority here, but the guy had a chance at his dream job from day 1. It sucked for us in 09 but it is what it is. If I'm coaching at say, a Oklahoma (great job) and the Tennessee job opened up, I'd probably leave. Nothing against OU.

The Tennessee fans (like me) that would have welcomed him back to win I think are in the right. The folks that say screw him, I'd never have him back.. I get that too. Nothing wrong with that.

I think he'll get one more big time job and I personally will be excited to see how it works out.

May be thinking when Saban and Fulmer retire in 3-4 years and Pruitt heads back to Bama, he would be looked on favorably to pick up where Pruitt leaves off. And, a few years might be enough time to rebuild the bridge he burnt.

Anytime a coaching search is going on, circumstances have been better. All 5 of the last 5 coaches gigged us. That's why there was a coaching change. Either by choice, incompetence, or resistance to change. They all blew it.

I'd like to see CJP retire as an old VFL on his own terms due to his win/loss record.

For me, it wasn't that he left, but how he left. Couple that with the calling of recruits, and it's hard to want to give the man another shot here.





Unless of course the hiring of someone like Schiano is imminent again...

People who blame Kiffin for leaving need only look in the direction of Mike Hamilton and any other persons who were responsible for giving Kiffin a ridiculously low buyout to leave for USC. He was given a free pass to leave UT on the day he signed with UT.

Don't blame Kiffin for doing what could have been predicted would happen the day he signed.
