Lane Kiffin On SportsCenter

Bama can do much more than we can on homegrown talent, and ND automatically draws Catholic athletes from all over the nation. Both are powerful programs based on tradition and draw high school kids with that as well. We are talking about the two most successful programs in the nation as far as national titles. Tennessee is just not on that level right now.

Bama has claimed like 100 national titles, and about 7 of them are actually legit. They're ahead of us, but not that far ahead of us. They are first in pretty much every SEC category, but we are second. On a scale of 1-10, I wouldn't put Bama's home grown talent at any higher than a 6. That's still quite a bit of out of state recruiting you gotta do, and coaches don't choose where they want to go based upon history alone, and considering both of us have great history's, the gap between the two choices probably wouldn't be that big.

As for Notre Dame, I just don't think that job is near the profile that it once was. They haven't won since 1988 and rarely do they win BCS bowls anymore. Plus, the expectations there are just ridiculously high.

These schools might be above us, but i'd still put them in that same 2nd tier area that we're at.

Off what? How do you calculate four? By my calculations they have 6. ESPN and other organizations say 8.

I get tired of all these people saying he left for his dream job so it's ok.

Of course he cares more about USC than UT. I get that, so does everyone else. The problem is he absolutely leveled UT to do it. You don't just destroy a top ten program like ours to take any job. Even if it is the best one in the country (I agree with him that USC is the best).

Why didn't Les Miles leave for his dream job, Michigan? Urban Meyer for his dream, Notre Dame? Because the timing wasn't right, it would have hurt the current job too much. Sure, there's money involved, but there's more to it than that. There is a way to handle yourself with class and intelligence, and then there's Lane Kiffin.

He referenced the number 1 recruiting class twice...lol... rivals had USC #1 only because of their avg. star ranking system... no one in America had a better class than Florida...

1. USC wasn't Kiffin's school; he coached there a few years...that's it. He didn't grow up there, his family isn't from there, he didn't play there, and he didn't even go to school there.

2. USC's job isn't necessarily better; what it is is a heck of a lot easier. Easier to recruit; easier to pile up wins; easier to get conference titles; easier to get to BCS bowl games; easier to get to national titles; easier scrutiny from fans; easier scrutiny from the press; and far less work to do -- less traveling, less baby-kissing, less politicking. That doesn't make it better, unless better is only defined by easier. The better competition is in the SEC; the better fans are in the SEC; the better football is in the SEC. The PAC-10 is where pansies go to coach as their "dream job."

well, i love playing in the SEC, and i love the competition and all the great rivalries, seeing as how i'm just a UT fan. But a coach's primary goal is to win. And if i wasn't the die hard UT fan that i am, and i was a coach, I'd take USC in a heartbeat. For all the reasons you just stated.

I realize some people see it one way, and some people see it the other. But i've always thought that if the primary goal of the coach is to win, then it'd probably be the better option for the coach to go to the place where it's easier to win.

And besides, Lane Kiffin wasn't an SEC coach. He stuck out like a sore thumb, and everybody knew it. He didn't get the tradition, the passion, and the RESPECT that is usually held among southern coaches. Now we have a coach that does. And i for one think we're better off with a man who knows just what it means to coach in the SEC. Go Dooley!!

Im so glad he is gone. I was getting tired of defending his childish actions. His departure has brought integrity back to the university.

I thought he and his staff were doing a good job here actually but being barraged constantly by embarassing circumstances was getting tiresome.

I wonder if it is too late to do give away my Camp Kiffin O&W shirt and It's time shirt for Haiti or if I should just burn it and the posters I got with it. I know Hound Dogs was offering discounts but I am too much of a procrastinator to get that deal.

I dont have a problem with Kiffin taking his so-called dream job....the only problem I have is when Orggie started calling recruits telling them not to go to class....There is no doubt in my mine that Kiffin told him to do it. Neither has any class. I`m glad he is gone. I never wanted him here in the first place. But I do think its funny how he thinks people were pissed because he was doing such a great job....I just wonder what color the sky is in the world he lives in. He needs to get back into the real-world.

He was more animated in that interview than he ever was in an interview in Knoxville. Did that guy ever laugh once when he was in Knoxville?

I just have to assume that he is more comfortable in Compton and South Central LA than he ever was in Knoxville...

You're giving the students more credit than they deserve in the IQ department. They were storming the athletic center before the presser ever started.

UT is bigger than one man. And we as a fan base should be as well.

God speed Lane, I hope you do well at USC. TN was a great program before you got here, and will remain a great program no matter who's at the helm for a long, long time.

Stay classy Vols.
