Would you consider taking Lane Kiffin Back?

Kiffin's young enough where he can potentially last a while here.

It would be a bargain to get him now.

I mean, if the administration is always leaning on the cheap side as with the past few hires, getting Lane would mean a great value per dollar scenario.

Just think: Saban and Bama vs Kiffin and UT. Wouldn't that make for a renewed rivalry and make it the BEST rivalry again?

All he did was take his "dream job" when he left UT.

Thats his only crime.

Looking at it from another perspective- UF could be looking for a new coach come end of the year. Wonder who might be on that short list?

He did almost win the sun bowl as head coach but sadly lost to GA Tech. That's the guy you want?

But that was not his only crime. UT self reported 23 violations in just 13 months while he was here. I know for a fact that some members of the administration were particularly embarrassed by the Orange Pride/Lacy Pearl Earps recruiting trip. It doesn't have as much to do with how he left as it does his conduct while he was here. This is even more far fetched than the Grumors. It's just not happening.

Did you guys really hate kiffin when he was here? Or just because he left? I didnt like him leaving either but i would give him a chance if it were possible..problem is the rest of you have already made it impossible w all the hatred. Fan base too hung up on it to accept kiffin... wouldnt surprise me one bit if kiffin is at ole miss next year

Yeah but that can be blamed on his cronies on the staff just as much, if not more than on Kiffin.

I'd love to have Lane coach if he was all grown up, but he isn't and will never be. Great O coordinator without the discipline and maturity to be a great HC over time.

Oh boy..i just read that ladt post. florida didnt cross my mind yet...i really dont want to see kiffin as hc at FLA.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. He had us as competitive as we've been since the late 90s to early 2000s. He did that in year 1. W two walk on starters on offensive line. The man can coach.

I said the same thing while I was typing that post.

If we can't beat florida with Jim McElwain, we'd definitely struggle against a Kiffin led squad.

But it could be a reality if we don't at least entertain the offer first.

This is dumb! He went 7-6 in 2009 with blowout losses to Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. He also lost to UCLA at home (who was terrible) and Auburn (average) at home. Hell, we were better than that in 2015 under Butch! (9-4 with nothing but close losses)

We were 5 and 7 the previous year.

Winning 7 games in 09 for Kiffins first and only year is still considered an improvement.

Dude lost me after the bowl game, refused to shake hands with Beamer. Maybe he’s grown up? But I remember telling my dad that night, how that was not Tennessee football.

He also had a mediocre team. And also was a missed fg and 2 blocked fgs away from beating the eventual NC

Trust me, I completely understand that everyone hated on Kiffin for some of the things he did.

I think the problem was he wasn't Tennessee football at the right time. We needed his spark and competitiveness. Just not his immaturity.

I do believe people can change, I just have trust issues. Ha

Do we really want to bring back the guy who:

  • Crashed a rented Lexus while drunk with 2 coeds and then fled the scene.
  • Had an affair with a local sports reporter.
  • Frequently partied with coeds.
  • Had so many affairs that boosters had to rent a downtown apartment for him to try and keep it hushed up.

People do grow up, but there is so much bad blood here in Knoxville for Lane.

Kiffin is a great coach. Took the same team that went 5-7 the year before and almost beat the national championship team that year. That team in 09 besides a small handful was BAD. Saban would not have hired him if he sucked. Now his team is putting up 50+ points a game and 800+ yards. Bring him and his daddy back with the talent we have now and we easily start winning the East right away. Also just a fun fact....our offense yards/points per game improved 60% in 09 over the previous year with almost the same exact team. Get over the broken hearts already it’s been 8 years.

Why not bring him back? Tons of people on here want Petrino and I’m pretty sure if you swap the wrecked car for a motorcycle he has the same baggage!

The big difference is that Petrino didn't wreck his motorcycle here. If he had then no one would want him.

My point isn't that Lane isn't a good choice for a school, it's that he isn't a good choice for our school because he has baggage here.

given that he was here only one year--or was it two? Either way, they weren't his recruits.

He lost the sun bowl as a head coach. And CBJ has out performed him.
