Lane Kiffin (Head football coach of the University of Tennessee)

Yeah but they got a man and he's 40. No I think Belicheat would be successful at ND I just don't see that as realistic. I will say that if Urban takes the job he won't be as successful as he was at UF. As soon as you strip them of their NBC contract they'll become just like everyone else, just wait.

I know it's not realistic. Thats my whole point. It's not just about paying the money as was suggested. Just because you can wave a check doesn't mean you can get whomever your heart desires. Bill Cowher isn't coming to Tennessee no more than Belicheat (I like that) Is coming to UT.

A coach is only as good as the staff he surrounds himself with. Kiffin may not have a long list of stellar accomplishments, but one thing that all of the people "in the know" seem to think is that he can put together a great staff. Ole Miss is proving that Coach O can recruit. He may not have been great as a head coach, but he can definitely coach defense and can definitely recruit. Kiffin is young and seems to have a lot of potential. Give the guy a chance. I'm on board and excited about the future of TN football. GO VOLS!

Let me put this question out there.

If Kiffin comes in and is a huge success, how long does he stay? Until the next NFL team comes calling?

Kiffin was making $2 mil. a year with Oakland no? Would he get a raise after being fired with cause? I'm not being a smart aleck, I fully support the guy and feel he is deserving of a salary in the $2-3 million range. Just wondering what you guys thought.

I'd rather he come in and be a huge success who leaves for the NFL than hire a dud who stays until we stick him in the grave 10 years later.

If he is a huge success, TN can and will give him more money. These days top level college coaches are making comparable money to NFL coaches. There isn't a huge disparity in the salaries.

I wouldn't be happy with a Kiffin hire, but I would support him 100% if the deed is done. I have no choice. I'm a Vol win, lose, or draw.

I think that is they way ALL TRUE VOL FANS will be!

I agree totally. Looking as if it is going to be Kiffin, whether you want him or not, we need to support him

Yes? OK, name a few of the accomplshments.

Monte Kiffin is an excellent DC. But he's what, 87 years old?

Fresno State
(quarterbacks coach)1997-1998
Colorado State
(offensive line coach)1999-2000
Jacksonville Jags-2000-Defensive Quality Control

Southern California
(tight ends coach)2001

Southern California
(wide receivers coach)2002-2006
Southern California
(offensive coordinator)2005-2006
Oakland Raiders
(head coach)2007 - 2008

Now at all his College jobs go look at the guys he coached and see how they did. Then come back.

So he gets credit for Pete Carroll's teams?

That would be fine with me. It means he is doing something right.
I doubt the NFL comes calling, but wondering if they will is the least of my concerns. As a matter of fact, if you told me...

Coach A/Coach B/Coach C

Coach A will be a good coach.
Coach B will leave for a NFL head coaching stint in 4 years.
Coach C will be a bust.

I'll take 'Coach B' all day.

There's plenty of reason. We've had to listen to his sanctimonious supporters babble on about the "The Tennessee Family" and how Fulmer "loves UT" and other sentimental trash, while the program rotted. Now, all that gobbledygook Fulmerites hold so dear is going to be smashed into a million pieces and cast to the four winds. Kiffin, O, et al are the Fulmerites worst nightmares: Guys who will actually bring the program into the 21st century. At least you guys will have your "Decade of Dominance" DVDs to fall back on.

Jesus get a heart.
