Correct, he never played a down for Saban.
Johnny Mac from the Houston Chronicle just now finished speaking with John and Jimmy. Jimmy asked him what he thought about Lane Kiffin as a head coach and he said NOT MUCH. He basically stated the only reason he was hired at Oakland was because he was a 2nd choice and they assumed Monte would come with him. He made several valid statements one being he feels he needs to go back to a smaller role maybe as an OC some where and prove himself before he is hired as a HC at any level because people are sold on his name and not his resume!
Bear Bryant was hired by Maryland with no prior HC experience. But for the U.S. entry into WW II, he would have become HC at Arkansas in 1942.
Joe Paterno had no prior HC experience before being hired by Penn St.
Bobby Bowden had no prior D1 HC experience before being hired at West Virginia.
Jimmy Johnson had no prior HC experience before being hired by Oklahoma St.
John Robinson had no prior HC experience before being hired by USC.
Jim Tressell had no D1 HC experience before going to tOSU.
Bob Stoops
Mark Richt
John McKay (USC)
Shall I go on?
I haven't had a chance to check the site since early afternoon and I just walked in.. The last thing I saw/posted was MH said no... Then the boss (my wife) told me that Kiffin had been offered the job after all.. Who do we believe and why?
its kiffin...done deal. they way i understood it to work out was it was gruden job to turn down, he thought about but obviously turned it down. kelly was just a smokescreen. kiffin has been high on the list, but the list was basically gruden, smith, cohwer, and kiffin from what i understand. some colleges coaches were talked to by the search firm.
I love watching the Fulmerites howl into the whirlwind. You're done. Your guy is toast. Just follow him out the door. It'll be easier than the ridicule we're going to heap on you when Tennessee wins the SEC in 2011.I'll bet thay all had more coaching experience in general that LK...
Not only is he lacking in HC experience, and success.
It's not like he had to set the world on fire at USC, he walked into a perfect situation with Carroll's staff, at USC and the recruits they are able to get a Southern California
It nice that he's got an in with recruiting in California, but selling a 4-5 star recruit on coming to USC from California is one thing. Getting him to come 2000 plus miles across the country to UTK is something different.
Think back two years ago when Bama hired Saban, they went out and got a proven winner
Hamilton goes out and get's a guy that has a HC record of 5-15
