Bear Bryant was hired by Maryland with no prior HC experience. But for the U.S. entry into WW II, he would have become HC at Arkansas in 1942.

Joe Paterno had no prior HC experience before being hired by Penn St.

Bobby Bowden had no prior D1 HC experience before being hired at West Virginia.

Jimmy Johnson had no prior HC experience before being hired by Oklahoma St.

John Robinson had no prior HC experience before being hired by USC.

Jim Tressell had no D1 HC experience before going to tOSU.

NO he isn't what we want. This guy has not earned a job like this. He needs to spend a few years proving himself as a HC in college.
What we need right now is someone who has proven they can win as a HC wherever they go. Someone that isn't too old, but still has plenty of experience.

That equals Brian Kelly!

I would be happy with either of these guys. Kelly's experience gives him the same advantage that Kiffin's connections do.

I thought Richt was special because of FSU's sucess but not Meyer. I definately didn't see Meyer's sucess coming as easily as it has, but that is only due to getting Tebow.

Richt beat us his 1st or 2nd year as HC if i do recall it was a last second shocker. Georgia has established themselves as a legitimate powerhouse due to their offensive explosivness because of Richt.

Meyer has maintained the program maybe built it somewhat but not much. Much like I believe Saban to be living off Shula's boys. Time will tell.

Remember Shula almost had Tebow, meyer got him by default because he was a Florida boy as were his family ties.


I wish we could get Mike Shula instead of Kiffin

Sorry folks,but i just think with Kifin we are gonna have another Shula on our hands,I hope he proves me wrong but WHAT has he done? Every body keeps talking about how GREAT a recruiter he was at USC,BULL PETE CARROL and the name USC was and IS the recruiter out there! Just my thoughts.Like i said i hope they prove me wrong. GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!

Shows how short your memory is. When Kiffin/Carroll started at USC they were in the tank and Carroll was returning after being fired by the Patriots.

Most people did not think Coach Pearl was the right hire, look at how many were wrong on that one. If Kiffin is our man, the best thing we can do is to rally around him and support him. Give him a few years before we form an opinion on his abilities, I know Chris Mortenson of ESPN/NFL Analyst/Commentator thinks he is a star just waiting to shine. I can't think of many people on here that has been around football in the limelight as he has been.
