I think a lot of the excitement over Kiffin is the potential staff that he might bring. I have heard the following listed as possibilities from people whose opinion I trust:
David Reaves = OC
Kevin Steele = DC
Ken Norton Jr = LBs coach/assistant DC
Orgeron = DL/assistant DC/recruiting Coordinator

I have also heard his Dad Monte’s name thrown into the mix.

No way in hell Norton is leaving USC. I'd would assume Orgeron would the be the DC and I find it very unlikely Daddy would join son

well if Trooper isn't involved, Tom Rathman is the RB Coach @ Oakland.....I just can't get around the fact that Orgeron could be involved,...he isn't what I would think kids would look-up to and respect...he isn't sharp. I just love that Orgeron "football" song....damn.

No way to validate this story, but if true sounds like someone I want:

"When USC's last HC got fired (i think it was hackett), Orgeron was in limbo much like many of our current coaches are. In most situations like this recruiting comes to a standstill, but not for Ed. Ed was out and about at High Schools, still selling. Anyway one day he was at a HS watching a kid, and an assistant from UCLA strolls in, i believe the mans name was Bernardini. Orgeron is sitting there watching when Bernardini walks up to the coach and within earshot of Orgeron says something along the lines of "What the F#ck is that guy doing here" " He does not even have a F#cking job". Orgeron didnt say a word to Bernardini, he just sat there and grinded his teeth. When Pete Carroll was hired he made Orgeron his head of recruiting. He asked Coach O which area he wanted to recruit personally. O said he wanted Bernardini, who recruited an area of Cali that was typically dominated by UCLA. Carroll said fine and Orgeron did not lose a single recruit from that area until Bernardini was fired two years later.

The guy is simply the best. There are guys who are more charming, better looking, and better salesman(saban, Napier etc...) But nobody outworks this man. Recruiting is his livleyhood, it is his passion. If he loses a recruit, he takes it personally. It is his mistress, and it is how he spends his time. You might beat out Orgeron for a recruit...it has happened. But you sure as hell wont outwork him. He is the best. None better, and none more committed."

This would jibe with someone else saying that Orgeron was already looking at UT's personnel. Most likely to get a quick jump on recruiting.

i've been getting more excited as the day goes on. i really hope that kiffin is the coach and brings along some top notch coaching.

by the way, have i missed something? or is this just more rumor bs and some mod or admin changed the title? i've taken everything that the nation has been saying recently with a grain of salt and very skeptical, but kiffin coming seems to be the word on the board lately. what's going on? is there any real info to back this up other than chris low saying that it's between kelly and kiffin?

if it is kiffin i'm so excited. orgeron as a recruiting coach would be insane as well. if this works out i'll lose it.

and he's probably going to bring his father and orgeron? omg.

i grew up in an ole miss house and went to om my frosh year so i wasn't happy with him as hc, but the man can recruit.

it is all over hogville -- do not know who the sources are but looks to be a done deal. He was in the running for our job last year and his dad coached at Arkansas. Good Luck with him all except when you play us.... hehe

Take this for what it's worth, but Lane Kiffin will be announced as our new head coach on Monday. Orgeron will soon be hired as co-defensive coordinator. Unless Clemson makes a better offer, which is doubtful, Kiffin will be roaming our sidelines next year. You can place a bet on it. Enjoy!
