I have done some coaching. Not alot. Not at a high level, and hardly worth mentioning. And absolutly nothing that gives me knowledge into how an SEC program is run. I have learned about business personalities, education, and sports through observation. I have found many similarities in the those that have succeed in each of those areas.

I was involved in a successful h.s. football program.

And have watched as that program has changed over the years. Watching those changes today has given me some rear-view perspective into what went on when I was a player. Putting alot of the questions I had together from then to now has opened my eyes up to my h.s. program. I think some of what I understand about that stuff might be not uncommon in football period.

(or I just wrote all that and your having a goodtime w/me?)

No,...I just mentioned he was on the Appy St. staff,...we don't have many guys out there in a position to be HC that are Johnny's Boys, or Phil's Boys like the Bear's guys have done,...and I'm not saying in-house is the only way to go,..just saying that Dale coming in on another guys staff would have been nice for him to mature as a coach in Knoxville,....I'd love for a former Vol to get in a position to oneday be Headman,...but that would be another thread....but no, Dale isn't HC material,.....but he is an Asst. and will be for a long while, - since you bring it up, what is the age diff. between Lane & Dale, just as a comparison?:dunno:

no I'm not SavageOrangeJug,...but I did bring up Dale about a week ago working @ Appy for Jerry Moore....(I think Moore should be on the list),..why?

I've got a hunch that you're sandbagging on us. Go ahead. Tell us what we should know about hiring a good coach.

I'm not getting my neck out that far,....I've had enough fun tonight getting kicked around. I want some details on Kiffen.

But in his case, (in my opinion) the positive things are;
1. Youth - he could be here for decades(can be bad too)
2. Involved w/a successful SoCal Program
3. Tasted defeat & knows what having a bad relationship w/ur boss is like.
I don't know enough about his Offensive Scheme

...what was his role in recruiting @ SoCal
...how much of the SoCal Offense was Kiffen, innovation
...what type of personel decision did he make @ SC & Oakland?
...why would he be able to recruit the South
...management stuff,....you have to teach, then the machine will run itself(but stay involved - I think that was something that may have hurt Phil, not involved enough),...thats why I don't think Bowden & Paterno are bad for football.....we don't know all the levels of inVOLvement of any Coach,...but I'm sure that changes from year to year...

Supposedly Kiffen is an excellent recruiter. He recruited for Pete Carroll when USC was in the tank and helped quickly turn that program around.

I think a lot of the excitement over Kiffin is the potential staff that he might bring. I have heard the following listed as possibilities from people whose opinion I trust:
David Reaves = OC
Kevin Steele = DC
Ken Norton Jr = LBs coach/assistant DC
Orgeron = DL/assistant DC/recruiting Coordinator

I have also heard his Dad Monte’s name thrown into the mix.

I don't see why Norton Jr would come to UT.
