Lane Kiffin (Head football coach of the University of Tennessee)

As OC at the one of the most successful college programs in the country, he was 23-3, setting USC records in virtually every offensive category (49.1 points a game, 579 yards a game, 3,000 yard passer, and two 1,000 yard rushers). His three years as recruiting coordinator he had the #1 class EVERY year. Pete Carroll called Kiffin the best recruiter he ever had and rivals.com voted him the best recruiter in the country. He is “polished” in front of the media and can handle a room. Can you say that about some of our other candidates? And yes, it’s important.
The whole NFL/Raiders/Al Davis debacle cannot be blamed on Kiffin. Davis is a wack-job who is out of control. In the locker room all the players publicly backed Kiffin after the decision and did not want him to go. You can discount his record of 5-15 with the Raiders. Saban was 6-10 with the Dolphins and Butch Davis was 24-35 with the Browns. Both of those guys seem to be doing okay in the college game.

That sounds like a similar situation we just had. That being said, I would be happy with Kiffin.

Plus, it seems like if we get him, then we pull his dad away from Tampa Bay, giving us one of the best defensive coordinators in the game today.

If Lane Kiffin is our new coach then great! I don't know if its a good hire or not, but think about this, he is a young coach and he wants to succeed and he wants to do it here. So this is going to be a guy who is working his @ss off to make this program the best, to get his own butt back into the NFL on day.

My own personal problem with the guy is he is younger than me and I am not that old. Still it freaks me out.

Ok, I have no sources, or knowledge of the AD, etc......

But lets' look at the situation. IF Hamy was serious in that we'd be announcing a decision on Dec. 1, then the decision has basically already been made, I believe.

So, if that IS the case, then I would assume that we have hired a coach that is not currently coaching.....Since Cowher is believed to be a fairly tale (although it could be him)........That only realistically leaves Kiffin.

If the decision has been made, and the contract negotiations are either done, or almost done, then it has to be Kiffin.

Please let me know your opinion here, without completely trashing my logic, I"m just trying to figure this out.......

Look at Miami.

UT's program is in the crapper, just because we have money doesn't mean we'll be getting a 1st or even 2nd tier coach.

We will be mediocre for the next 10 years.

Which is still better than what I think Fulmer would have produced.

I agree, I think he can build the best line of ast. coaches that could put us back on top. I know he can recruit since that is why Reggie Bush went there. His Dad is considered the best DC in football. I hope this happens:cool:

Logic is sound except there are guys like Billick or any coordinator that would leave right away to be HC. Or even a Peterson/Kelly type whose pay raise would be so much he would leave before bowl game.

Your records as a HC aren't that far apart.

0-0 vs 5-15

Awesome, so now we are getting somewhere.......So back to the logic part.......Has the decision already been made, or is my logic incorrect on this part??

When did Hamilton ever give the date Dec 1? Do you have a source for that? He stated in a couple weeks. Then during the News sentinel blog last week he stated that he wasn't going to put a time limit on the search and find the right person.

I thought he said a coach would be named by Dec. 1

IDK, but if going after a big NFL guy if it fails, guys like Kelly or Peterson or Patterson would need two secs to say yes so we could call them on the last day of November.

he said he wanted to announce who the coach is around Dec. 1.

Ok, so let me change this.........assuming that the decision COULD be made in 2 weeks or so, then the first round go to unrealistic coaches.........they all say no way.....

Now we're in a bargaining game with the 2nd round:
1. Butch Davis
2. Mike Leach
3. Spurrier

Once we realize it's goign to take $$$$$ to get these dudes, then we go after 3rd tier coaches:
1. Kiffin
2. Kelly
3. Peterson
4. Patterson

I would bet $100, that's it's either Kiffin, or Kelly...

Remember, UT has always been cheap, getting rid of Fulmer has completely drained us.........I don't think UT will go to the $4 million range to outbid a school......
