Lane Kiffin (Head football coach of the University of Tennessee)

The just said on ESPN Outside the Lines that he has a lot of connections to Syracuse...the AD there use to work at USC when Kiffin did..plus Syracuse is Al Davis's old school...so they speculate he might take it if offered...just thought Id throw that out there

He probably will since there isn't an opening at UT

there might not be an opening here yet, but there isn't an opening at washington either. that didn't stop espn from mentioning kiffin would be interested in going there.

I say we try to woo Bill Cowher out of retirement. I would LOVE to see him put a staff together and be on the big orange sideline next year!

Just think of the big time media attention we'll get with a hire like this. Big time recruits may be forced to pay attention to Tennessee for a change. Instead of hearing how awful we are, they'll hear how we are bringing in the guy (we can spin it to look like this) that was responsible for the outstanding/unstoppable offenses USC put on the field with Leinhart, Bush, White, Keary Colbert, Dwayne Jarrett, Ryan Kalil...the list goes on and on.
We all know that he has had success at a big school with lots of home-grown talent. Sure, it was easier to recruit to USC than to UT...but let's face it, we aren't going to get someone like Bob Stoops in here. I think Lane Kiffin is by far the best move Tennessee could make with their replacement hire. It's going to be a gamble hiring anyone to take over for Fulmer. I just believe that this gamble will be the one that could have the biggest pay out for TN fans.

Well, here's the situation

Kiffin is out of a job. :)

The UT job is not open. :)

Yet. :post-4-1090547912:

And exchanging Kiffin for Fulmer probably would be an improvement.

And the Raiders did improve under Kiffin - but how can you not improve on 2-14?

With Kiffin he wanted the Arky job, he was pissed when Petrino left early with the Falcons and took it, so he's hungry he wanted that job bad. And also Al said his dad wanted to be D.C. but couldnt because of contract and tamporing charges. Maybe if Tennessee would come open and he's available him and his father show up here, that's the question.

i think the chances of landing any NFL coach is a long shot right now

Scott Linham is looking for a job!!!!

Does Art Valero still have his position???

“He belongs. That's the important thing. A lot of times, there are a lot of good football players, and a lot of those guys aren't the Reggie Bushes of the world. But they are very good football players where it's going to come down to how they fit your scheme. Once they fit your scheme and you find a place for them, then let him go out and flourish.” Art Valero

(He played OL in college, you probably wouldn't want him anyway.)

I found that to be a stroke of genius. It was Lane's way of telling Davis, "Put me in an absurd situation, I'll be sure and do absurd things." This firing will turn out to be Mike Shanahan, Vol. 2, for Al Davis.

That was initial thought when i heard of the 70+ yard field goal attempt.

Linehan is a legit option...he benched the qb and rb after they were blowing it, something that can never seem to get done around here

Been a Kiffin fan since last season early. Syracuse is also looking for a coach and they are interested in Kiffin. Plus we have no vacancy at the moment. Something has got to give.

Bill Cowher's waiting for Jerry Jones to fire Wade Phillips and he'll take that job. It's a matter of time before the Cowboys choke again with romo / TO and Phillips.

Just for giggles I checked a few Scout affiliated boards and found "Hire Kiffen" threads on the sites for Washington, Clemson, South Carolina and Syracuse as well as Tennessee. While I think he is a good coach my concern is that this whole scenario makes too much sense. If we get a change I fully expect an ugly, protracted political fight. One of these other schools that is not wed to their head football coach like a couple of common law hillbillies living together in a cabin the holler is going to strike while the iron is hot. I can see Fulmer and his supporters dragging this thing out as long as possible in the hopes that all the big names will come off the board and then they can fall back on the "who you gonna' get argument."

Sad but true, that is the way I see it playing out if they try to make a move. But the reality is PF will pull out 6 or 7 wins, the AD will say he deserves another season or 2 to right the ship and we will all be back here next year talking about who will be the next coach.

I'd be okay with that guy standing next to Valero.

Did you read what Valero said about Gruden after he left Tampa? Let's just say he need never apply with Jon for a job again.

Remind me not to slow down when passing through your part of the country.

Adkins is the next HC at UT, he'll get it when Phil moves up to be the AD and that will only after Pat decides to let someone take her place and then she is AD for a couple of years or so herself.

You guys are all like little children running around the yard making soap bubbles and watching them float off into the wind.

Nothing wrong with that, I enjoy watching you have fun, but it would seem like more fun if you guys wouldn't act like you were so miserable all the time!!

Colin Cowherd and Ivan Meisel talked briefly about Kiffin to UT today, but didn't mention UW or Syracuse. I would imagine if he had interest at Arkansas he intends to go to a southern program closer to his parents. Of all three jobs, obviously UT has the program in the best shape, but that means that Fulmer also has the best chance at keeping his job. UT just needs to get with it and try to strike while the iron is hot for once. Allowing Fulmer to bow out gracefully and allowing the program to mire in mediocrity until he "rights the ship" (for the 2nd time in the last 3 years), are two different things. Unless they pull the plug now, UT might be in for a Bowden or Paterno like situation...but considering how many backers Fulmer has in the AD office--and rightfully so, the man is nothing but class--it might already be too late.

Jason Garrett will be the next coach of the Cowboys when Wade Phillips leaves. That is common knowledge. Look for Cowher to end up at Detroit or stay in retirement.

I read one account that anticipated Kiffin to either Clemson or Syracuse, depending on how the current season unfolds.

We have absolutely no guarantee Kiffin would do any better at UT than Fulmer.

That would be the worst thing possible for the University of Tennessee.

This Lane Kiffin rumor seems to have some legs to it... There is a published article on foxnews that states he should be wearing orange next season.. Syracuse or UT...
