I'm not reading though all these pages of this thread and I apologize if this was already said, but maybe they call him "Lane" because there are two Kiffins on the staff.... maybe?!? ....just maybe???

I think the fact that his dad is a coach on the team factors into why he's commonly referred to Coach Lane Kiffin as opposed to simply Coach Kiffin.

Apparently you are not a neurosurgeon.

The rapper Lil Wayne makes more than both of them. Shall we call him "Viscount Wayne?"
It gets to your inane point about Gupta having earned his title, which was dumb as all get out. He no more earned it than CLK or L'il Wayne did in being universally recognized by a nickname.

It's not an income debate. You tried to frame it on "earning it" which, is senseless in that it's purely subjective. That means your argument for Gupta is unsupportable. Ms Elder ascending to the lofty heights you proferred just makes it look plain senseless.

"Excuse me, Coach Kiffin?"

"Oh no. 'Coach Kiffin is my father. Just call me Lane! *winks and flashes smile with a twinkle in it*"

Really? Perhaps I should remind of that you argued this point:

Funny that coaches at the best program make more than all the neurosurgeons. Seems to me that earning is a part of that too, but don't let me confuse that with taking a course for a stamp.

Gupta earning the title of "Dr." is dumb as all get out? How is referring to someone who has earned an M.D. as "Dr." , dumb? You define inaneness with this nonsense. The fact remains that it is more proper to call an M.D. "Doctor Smith" than it is to formally refer to a football coach as "Coach Smith". "Coach" is considered an honorary title or one granted by position rather than merit, therefore it is not disrespectful for them to be referred to by their first name. I think this settles the matter. Now you can go listen to one of your Archduke Lil Wayne downloads and Wave yo hands in the aiya.
