Think about it - there is a reason someone hasn't snatched up Kirby Smart as their head coach. There's a reason somebody hasn't snatched up Phil Fulmer as their head coach. These things are not just an oversight by every college in America with an opening. These guys seldom if ever are even mentioned much less getting an interview.
You're funny. If UT hired him as HC, you would be saying how great a hire it wa
people are going off on here like its the second coming of jesus when we hired sabans linebacker coach but you dont think anybody would want to hire smart as a hc?...
Dooley and Thompson did not get along. Thompson was not going to be the DC. But Dooley should have at least interviewed him. That would have been the decent thing to to do. Lance Thompson felt disrespected by not receiving at least an interview so he left. He did not get a contract extension more security at Bama so he left. Means only one hangover from Kiffin's coaching staff.
IMO it was:
1) Contract extension related to the role he was in.
2) No interview for DC.
3) Less than harmonious relationship with Dooley/Hart - Hart has put an end to the profanity laced tirades for which CLT is famous, as well as Dooley's trash talking players in the media.
4) OK, not great, performance as DL position coach making $400 K per year - see #1 above.
5) Lateral move back to a HC that still respects his work. Doubtful heir to the DC role when Smart leaves. Probably a discussion was held on "expectations" personally and professionally.
Kirby Smart could decide to stay at Bama until either Richt is terminated/quits at UGA, or until Saban leaves/retires. Or he could be the coach in waiting at UT if CDD doesn't make it.
i agree with this but i also have to think that all the coaches that left are use to being with winning programs...we seemed to have no offensive game plan other than hope that bray can win it for us going into last season and when he went out we were lost...the lack of a second half game plan in every game should have been proof that the changes needed to take place on the offensive side of the ball, so it kinda sucks seeing all the defensive coaches jumping ship. college is a lot faster than high school so just signing a good high school player and hoping for the best with a bunch of guys that are good recruiters but no coaching experience sounds like a bad idea to me. we can get all the "sabans assistants" in the world but if you dont have saban telling them what to do its kinda pointless.

UT has strength in numbers with Ron McKeefery's contract : govolsxtra.com
It makes me wonder if we parted ways. The players don't seem shocked. Did they know ahead of time? The recruits don't either. Maybe Dooley had other plans. I don't think they will come out and say they let him go , sort of the way Steele left Clemson. I liked Thompson and wanted him to stay. I'm just starting to think it was our choice and not his. If this is the case , I hope the media picks up on it. Even if they do they will still probably drag us through the dirt as usual.
You're funny. If UT hired him as HC, you would be saying how great a hire it was, and he was the best up and coming HC, and blah..blah..blah (insert your sheepish, uninformed comments here) :lolabove:

Well, if you believe some of the stupid posts on this board, we would.
Lance Thompson appears headed back to Alabama » GoVolsXtraIs it for sure that LT is leaving UT? Less than a week after Coach Sal being hired, people are already saying we need to replace LT. There are several threads on this topic. It seems people are never happy, first they wanted to keep Lance and now all of a sudden we are better off with out him.
Maybe I missed it but where was it said that he is officially leaving? I guess it is time for Skeeter or OCI to clear this up for us.
Reasonable recap.LT came here to learn under Monte Kiffin, not because he wanted a change of scenery. He got a full year under Monte's wing, and I thought Monte was grooming him to be his successor in a few years. Since Dooley came aboard, there was a chance to be the DC before Wilcox was named the guy. He got passed over. Tried to show a little patience and got passed over again two years later, by a guy in the very same position he was in 3yrs earlier.
You simply do not know that. You have not worked with him on a daily basis to know what his potential as a DC is. Having checkmarks on your resume isn't all that's involved. Hart has experience with both men. Dooley has experience with both men. They chose Sunseri. Dooley passed over Thompson twice.Sunseri has shown nothing that LT hasn't, in regard to being promoted.
I would go back if I were in his shoes. He'd be more of a proven commodity under Saban, than here. Smart move on his part. It's all about making the perceived "Splash" hire. So, LT went where he'll be perceived as such in the next few years.
