Lakers trade Kwame for Gasol.

The Pistons would execute the Lakers in a series. Ask Kobe how much fun it was last time they faced Detroit in The Finals. Gasol is just a stat whore on a bad team. He's essentially Zach Randolph with broken English.

I don't know about being a stat whore. He is a nice guy and maybe that's his problem. He's too soft to be a big guy in the NBA. While he's a talented offensive player here and in the Euro league, he will never cut it in the banging, cut throat play of the NBA. He couldn't stop Spud Webb from going to the hole.

Gasol has bynum and kobe to do the heavy lifting. he is consistantly double teamed with the grizzlies. he wont be seeing those with the lakers. does this take them above dallas, yes, san antonio? probably not.

It lifts them over San Antonio right now... We'll see what happens when the Spurs buckle down, though.

As some said Gasol benefited from being off a terrible team to get his stats. Saying that he's a big upgrade over Kwame Brown, big! Also, anytime you can make a solid trade without it involving Bynum or Odom you're getting away with something. The gap wasn't that far apart, but it's decreased now, and they can at least compete for the Western Conference. When it all comes down to it I say the Spurs will probably beat them, but I'll take being competitive over 2 first round exits and a missed postseason experience like the previous 3 seasons

Saying Pau was a fan favorite here in Memphis I'd say is a stretch. I think he was one, but really lost that status last year. He is the softest 7 ft player in the league. He's scared of contact and does nothing but whine to the refs the entire game. He saw the writing on the wall, in that the Grizz were rebuilding around Conley Jr. and Gay, and not him anymore and couldn't take it. Good riddance Pau, go complain to whoever will listen out in LA.

Boone, Williams, Nachbar, etc. Swift will be suiting up fairly soon. 24 and 12 on your opening night is a nice game no matter the frontcourt you played.
There are plenty of 4/5 types who could come off a three week drunk and 24-12 that collection of stiffs.

The reason I do like the Pau Gasol trade:

If Bynum gets back and can play tough without getting injured, then Pau won't have to play a tough inside game.

Problem is I'm only giving Bynum about a 20% shot of coming back to be a real inside presence in the West.

I say Andrew will be back, if the Lakers want to advance to the 2nd round and beyond Bynum will play a critical part
