I really hope one of these guys emerges as the starter byt the Florida game. Personallly, I think Lamaison has the mindest and the attitude that we need. His arm is not that bad. If a QB with physical attributes like Ken Dorsey can be a stud field general at a big time program then there is no reason why Laimason couldn't as well. I like the guy. Stephens would be my second choice...both could have futures here.

If we're changing QBs after the first 2 games, it's going to be a long season. But Kiffin only wants one guy at QB, so if either of those two are going to play, they have to win the job in fall practice.

Maybe Stephens.. No to Laminson...

If it's stephens he will be starting from game 1. Not two games in.

Fulmer only wanted one QB as well....It all depends on how bad it gets, and how quickly... We better run the ball 50 times a game.

Shouldn't your title be "Crompton or Stephens" since they are the only two with legitimate chances of seeing the field in 2009.

From casual observances of practice, I'll say that Crompton has the inside track. He looks more confident with the offense than Stephens. Stephens mechanically looks awkward when he throws the ball. I think Crompton will win job, but we'll see.......Lamaison has Zero chance, IMO

Can we just sub a qb for a lineman and just have an extra blocker? Seems like it would work better than throwing the ball.

No way on Laimason this year. It's surprising to see all the love for Stephens. I agree though, he throws with a lot of velocity :gun: I like his passion for the game.

Threads like this make me feel as if the the 09' Vols are gonna be very similar to the 08' UCLA Bruins. :gone:

Once he gets up to speed on the system, I think Lamaison will prove to be the better, smarter field general. That's what Kiffin likes, a smart QB.

Considering that Kiffin said Lamaisson and Rozier could barely get the snap count called and then actually take a snap...my money's on Stephens

On the video from day one practice, all I saw of Crompton was inaccurate passes.....either high, below or behind the receivers. That usually means fumbles or interceptions. If that happens, I believe that Lamaison may have a shot at starting. He was pretty accurate in Mt. SAC, and all he (or any quarterback) needs to do is not get us beat by turnovers this year.

I am telling you, if our starter at QB is a JUCO who has been on campus for about 30 days, we are screwed.

like 5-7 screwed. No chance Lamaison starts.

Both Crompton and Stephans have had a chance to go over this systems in the spring. Nicholas is just getting his first taste of it. I wouldn't make any snap judgements in the first few days. Realistically unless Crompton and Stephans fall on their face. Nicholas will probably redshirt and have 3 years of eligibility left to have a really good run at it next year. Although I think Lamaison is better then those 2. He's won almost everywhere he's went. His success in JUCO is well documented but he even won a championship in popwarner for the West Covina Bruins and got to meet the Mayor of the city.

There's probably not a lot of difference in all of their arms. Where Lamaison excells is his leadership and his ability to read defenses and go through his progressions refusing to force the football, but checks down to the next receiver in the progression. This evident when you look at his stats and watching him play. Almost 3500 yrds 36 touchdown and only 8 ints.

Forget his height. He patterns his game afer Drew Brees. He makes good decisions with the football he doeesn't turn it over. He makes all the throws has a quick release. Never stares down a receiver prides himself on looking off the safeties. Tennessee's lucky to have him. He wasn't sure he was going to be eligible for the SEC academically so his tape was released late and most didn't know he was available. Credit Lane Kiffin with his aggressive recruiting to go to other states and grab kids to go to Knoxville. Lane's value is already becoming evident and he and Nicholas Lamaison will do big things at Tenneessee. Volnation should be thrilled I know I am

I'm just putting myself in the coaches shoes. You've got a QB that knows the system but can't make the throws. On the other hand, you have a QB that can make the throws, but doesn't know the system yet. I'd rather "dumb down" the play book and go for a better passer since none of them should have trouble handing off the ball to a RB.

Finally, a comment on Lamaison from someone who actually knows something about him.

Refreshing aaahhhh.

After Stephens didn't chase that guy after the pick he threw last year. I was done with him and I was pulling for him last year.
