Lady Vols ?

I'd like to step away from basketball for just a moment.  The Lady Vols Volleyball team just advanced to the Elite 8 with an upset of #2 Penn State at PSU.  I'd have started a new topic, but for some reason, it's not letting me do that.  Yeah, I know, it's volleyball.  But, it's still the Elite 8.

Sweet..so did the Lady Gators..congrats to both teams! :devilsmoke:

Jmx: I sincerely think you're an astute college basketball mind, and I mostly enjoy your posts, and find them to be insightful. That being said, why the hate, man? Do you feel threatened by the idea of a 19-year-old woman who could absolutely slaughter you in a game of one-on-one? Don't be. Yeah, we all know there's a "disproportionate" percentage of lesbians who attend Lady Vol games. So what? Are you threatened by lesbians as well? There's a damned good reason why the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame resides right here in Knoxville, and if you call yourself a Vol fan, you should take pride in that, just like the 1998 National Title and the glorious days of the Ernie and Bernie show.

Peace,
your pal, DowntownVol

Uh, you need to sit back and actually watch an entire game and see that you are completely wrong!

I coach small college women's basketball and there is no way that you can say it is that much different. Are the women a step slower than the men...maybe sometimes...but NOT all of the time.

Women's basketball is just that..its basketball!

Mens basketball has turned into a 40 minute game of fast break layups.

Jmxvol, you must be a student or a kid that has no clue about sports in general. When you support a school, college or high school, or middle school, wheather you like a certain sport or not, you should show your class and character and support all sports that school represents.
I hate the game of soccer but if the Lady Vols are on and I see it, I'm cheering for them to whip other team. If Tennessee had a freaking bowling team, I'd cheer for them too. Bowling's not even a sport, its a leisure time activity. However, I said all that to say this, Wheather its male of female, support anything that puts on the ORANGE AND WHITE for Tennessee. I wish I'd had the ability to play college sports at the University of Tennessee. :lolabove:

I think you misread my statement. I was questioning how they thought women's basketball and men's basketball were different. They're both the same sport...with women, in fact, usually learning and performing the basic fundamentals better than the men.

I have watched several entire games. Far too many to count. Not only that, but I do try to attend every Lady Vol home game.

It might not make Sportscenter headlines but it is popular enough to have a professional league.  I respect the fact that you don't like women's basketball and thats fine.  But to say things that aren't true to justify your feelings is a little pathetic.

The WNBA is subsidized by the NBA. Their league is only there because of men's basketball!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to the hot Lady Vol player, i remember her from last year, but i haven't seen her this year....did she grad out already? Or did i dream all of this.....

You haven't read the entire thread....I posted that I have a dear friend who actually plays college basketball and happens to be a lesbian. I've played her one-on-one several times and she would admit to you that she doesn't have a prayer in our matchups against eachother. However, I don't take a lot of joy in beating a woman in BBALL so usually her and I just shoot around and goof off with eachother rather than compete. She is a female athlete and a lesbo and she is my friend. She also doesn't take stuff like all this that we have discussed seriously or find it offensive. I love her to death and I know she feels the same about me but she knows Women's hoops ain't nothin' compared to the real thing....and I remind her of it often because we enjoy taking jabs at one another. It's all in good fun... I'm not taking this subject that seriosly so if anyone has been offended, try not to be....it's all good homies.

Just like Men's track pays for itself, men's swimming pays for itself, like men's baseball pays fo itself. Football may pay the bill but as far as on field performance the Women's Athletic Dept outperforms the MEN.

GREAT POINT Vol67

I think that's the reason why some resent the Lady Vol IMO,also if it wasn't for a certain men's teams we would had have at least 3 Sears (now know as Sports Academ)Cup hanging in the trophy case by now.

BTW in case y'all wondering what the Sears (now know as Sports Academy) Cup is, it awarded to institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. :D

Hopefully side-stepping some of the baggage of the lame parts of this thread so far- the mens' and womens' hoops games are definitely different- though the main differences have "only" happened in the last 25 years.

That said, they aren't different in the sense of A Game verses B Game, the way some testosteronal twits are trying to claim.

Basically, over the last 20-25 years, the mens game has gotten more rhino-like in the paint, and, due to greater male height, has started taking place as much over as under the rim.

The women's game, being below the rim (like the original game) and being less about brutes muscling each other around like rugby (like the original game) emphasizes ball movement, quickness, and marksmanship more than the post-modern men's game. IOW, the women today are playing the game Maravich played, while the men are playing something new with less style but more muscle.

It's no accident the HS and college women win the 3-point contests against the men every year, any more than, due to shear macho idiocy and choking, Candice Parker won a dunk contest against bigger men when her only advantage was above her shoulders.

It's because the games are different- And the women's game not only emphasizes teamwork and group hustle more- as well, women don't have as big a problem as men keeping their gonads in their pants.....

I'm all for women's sports and everything... but c'mon, she won that because she's a chick...

Maybe so, but the NBA felt that women's basketball was important enough to pay for it.

I watched the contest, and you're only right if you are willing to concede that male basketball players are so into their penises that a chick couldn't help but win...

Personally, I think you are ragging on males too hard.

Candice won the contest because the males were so into beating her instead of getting the job done, they choked over and over and over and ..... they looked pitiful.

It was spectacularly goofy. The males were so into proving they were better than a chick, they couldn't perform.

Dunkus interruptus.

It was, in fact, like something specially designed by angry feminists- except the key was superior brains, not equal physical skills.
