Tha Lady Vols just finished a stellar year in SEC softball. They competed hard in all games though in some games their hitting was suspect. When your star pitcher holds an opponent to one earned run, you should win. Today’s game was an example of what playing in the heat of the Sun takes out of you. Over many years of playing and coaching softball,I have seen this many times. The Sun and heat sap your strength and while you may think you’re just as strong you don’t connect with the ball authoritatively. Kudos to the Ladies for their competiveness. I just think the strength was not there. Again, congratulations on a very good year and keep your heads up.

They definitely had a good year and congrats on a good season. But don’t use heat or the sun as an excuse for not winning it all. I mean two teams from Texas are still in it and a team from OU. They play in the same heat if not hotter.

True, but our ladies put themselves in a tough spot losing to OK and having to play through the losers bracket. Texas earned the right to rest yesterday. It’s like they say, “It pays to be a winner”

The ladies definitely showed a lot of fortitude after that gut wrenching OU loss. I think most would not have been surprised if they didn’t just shut it down, so to speak. Not saying quit, but going through the motions. Because it was tough. But quited the naysayers and then some. Just wished it would’ve ended up different with a natty. But good season for sure.

The environment matters for some. I agree that both teams played in the same environment but player conditioning was likely different. At least thats what I took away. That and I 100% agree heat and sun will suck the life out of you.

They really need to get a second pitcher to a point where they can reliably count on one to provide consistent relief of Pickens. The other pitchers have occasionally had good games but can not be consistently counted on in relief. One is a sophomore and the other two are freshman, so hopefully one or more can develop consistency over the next year, or they can pick up a very good pitcher through transfer. Pickens is an excellent pitcher but she is over worked and also needs to develop the killer instinct to finish games. The potential is there to be even better next year with continued development. GBO!

Feel like we could post this on repeat every season.....sadly. Always good....never good enough.
I can see what you're saying but every fan base except one says the same thing every year. Everyone is in good company.

So, all past WCWS championship coaches are:

Mike Candrea (ret.), Arizona (8)
Sharron Backus (ret.), UCLA (8)
Patty Gasso, Oklahoma (8)
Sue Enquist (ret.), UCLA (3)
Inouye-Perez, UCLA (2)
Tim Walton, Florida (2)
Bob Brock (ret.), Texas A&M (2)
Clint Myers (ret.), Arizona St. (2)
Heather Tarr, Washington (1)
Carol Hutchins (ret.), Michigan (1)
Diane Ninemire (ret.), California (1)
Margie Wright (ret.), Fresno State (1)
Judi Garman (ret.), Cal St Fullerton (1)
Lonni Alameda, FSU (1)
Patrick Murphy, Alabama (1)

Notice that (current) SEC coaches only have 3 championships between them. All the owners of crooked numbers have retired except Gasso and I think she will retire soon rather than face the new grind only to lose like they did this year. I think she wants one more to jump Candrea and Backus. One would think that Murphy had several with all the love he gets from the media. Only other winner is Walton and he has 2.

It was said before the season started this team would go as far as Pickens can take them, which was to the F4. A lot better than most thought. Losing some good players but got a lot of talent coming back and newbies coming in including pitchers. Coaching staffs challenge is to mix and match it all together for another run. Look forward to the new season.
