Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Westbrook and Hayes getting attention because we finally signed some point guards!!!!! Jordan was our point for years mainly because she made less turnovers!
If Tea had of slowed down and played under control there would not be so much discussion. But she played like a freshman and then hurt last year.....

So now we have Two top ten point guards!!!! FINALLY

I agree with Jumper on the 'maybe'. I think a lot will depend on coaching or lack of. Who coaches the guards?

My OP was top ten rated!!!! Not will they become a highly rated pg nor did I mention coaching!

Hoopgirls rating:
2012 #21 Andraya Carter
2013. #42 Jordan Reynolds
2014. #28 Alexa Middleton
2015. #12 Tea Cooper
2016. None

2017. #2 Westbrook
#7 Hayes
TWO TOP TEN RATED GUARDS !!!!!
That's six years without a top ten guard. Now people can speculate, dissect, degrade, question, any way you slice it..... We finally have two top ten guards.

What happens next is anybody's guess. Glad we got them! 👍

Te'a was ranked in the top 10 by 4 recruiting services. But yeah, that magical Hoopgurlz ranking makes all the difference. LOL, you can't make this stuff up if you tried.

Carry on.

I listed a source and showed the results!

You made a statement and no proof or documentation to prove your point ? I cannot name five recruiting services so you got me there. So I will carry on with what little I know. I yield to your superiority.

That's where ya went wrong by going solely on hoopgurlz rankings. You can't go on just by one site there's not enough resources allocated to covering girls evaluations.

It's a moot point since Te'a is transferring, but since I like to have the last word....look no further than Te'a's UT biography.

  • Ranked No. 1 overall and No. 1 point guard by D1Spects.com.
  • Ranked No. 3 overall and No. 1 point guard by ProspectsNation.com.
  • Ranked No. 4 by Full Court.
  • Ranked No. 7 by All Star Girls Report.
  • Ranked No. 12 in espnW HoopGurlz Top 100.
  • Ranked No. 16 by Blue Star.

That's 6 services, with 4 of them listing her in the top 10, including one of them listing her as the #1 overall player in her class.

I think with Cooper leaving this really opens up a role/opportunity for Williams. From social media, I know she thinks highly of DeShields and a few other players on the team. Hope Williams see this the same way!

2018 #1 rated player by hoop girls.

Chrystin Williams from Arkansas

Thanks! I thought they were talking about someone that will be on the upcoming roster and I was like, "Which one is that?" LOL

Y'all are way ahead of me! 😁

I hope DD can influence!!! But she will play with what ever is left for 2018. But following a number one rated class should help her and other recruits decide to play at UT!

A lot of guards for 2018 have interest in UT.

Scott-Grayson

I choose the service I want and do not ask you to respond to any of my post if you don't see that as my right. She turned out to be much less than a top ten recruit anyway as she had a terrible freshman year of turning the ball over and shooting 30 percent.
The second point is this is the most talented team that Holly's had at Tennessee even if some of the players are young they should still fit in well with the seniors.
That was the main point I was making talent is far better this coming season if you think that is wrong then you must be living in a closet with earplugs in.

So, with Tea and Alexa leaving, I sure am glad Holly continued to recruit those guards. Maybe Holly knew things that some of the volnation experts didn't. Who woulda thunk it?

I agree, everyone has a right to their own disillusionment.

Despite the transfers, this is the year to make a run with the seniors. Too much is being made of the freshmen. The seniors are the key to success. With the seniors gone next year, it will be a bigger struggle to succeed.

Regarding the closet and earplugs, only a few here have a clue as to what is going on with the competition. It doesn't matter how good a team is. What matters is how good the team is relative to the competition. And folks, the competition is getting better too.

Newsflash. This wasn't in response to your post, so try again.

And no, next year's team isn't more talented than the roster 2 years ago with Diamond, Mercedes, Jaime, Bashaara, and Jordan starting and Te'a, Andraya, Alexa, Nia and Kortney on the bench. So it's time for you to get out of the closet with your earplugs in.

I totally disagree that it is not more talented and really all they will have to do is be better than that team and I don't think that will be hard to do. If it is hopefully it is good-bye Holly.

I guess what AMB is assuming that DD Mercedes and Jamie have not improved in two years ? Green with her jr colege AA status is les than Bashara and Jordan as a Sophomore was better than Westbrook as a freshman? The bench then better than this incoming class?

I think we are much better after the three amigos playing with each other for a couple of years and a top recruiting class will help. JMO

how any player will play in college until they start doing so. A lot of top recruits don't ever live up to their billing. A minority do--but a lot don't pan out and most, in my view, turn out to be adequate players, maybe a bit better, but not all-conference types.

Cooper wasn't terrible as a freshman--but she wasn't especially good either as the Vols faced a lot of zone defenses that year (not surprisingly) and that made it difficult for her to play her game. She needed to adjust her game--develop. Any suggestion that we won't miss her is lunacy as she is talented--there is no question about that. Equally, any suggestion that freshmen are going to come in and tear it up is equally crazy. A couple of the freshman have the potential to contribute--and they need to now as guard depth is again bad. But nobody can predict how any new prospect will do until they get on the court and play.

Evidently she did something really bad for Holly not to want her back. Holly is mild mannered so getting on her bad side would take some doing and evidently Tea was up to the task. As far as her play she never accepted the role of point guard she wanted to be a shooting and playmaker and often got inside and had no where to go. She had 93 turnovers as a freshman and shot slightly over 30 percent and 26 percent from the three. I consider that terrible. Certainly she could improve if she was dedicated to that task evidently she had other things she liked doing better.
Much better to not have players like that on the team and I doubt we miss her 4 turnovers and 3 of 10 shooting per game. Maybe whomever takes those minutes will do better than that don't see them doing worse.

volfan35 years "she has nice elevation like chamique did" - you named the difference that Holdsclaw had that - hang time. She went up with such timing and released at the top, middle or almost back on the floor - depending on the defense. Never observed that quality in a female player since. perhaps there might be another .
