Lady Vols Recruiting Info

DD may decide to leave, but I don't think Mercedes has a prayer of being chosen for a pro team--does not have the skills or attitude.

I can't imagine any coach doing this...If she did, I grant you it is beyond the pale and absolutely nefarious, but it seems bizarre. Did PS or Parker ever mention it?

Not publicly because there was no need. Brenda knew that all Pat needed to do was place a few calls and her career would have been over. Maryland never had a chance at Candace anyway, and Pat also knew that. Brenda only started to grow a pair when Pat could no longer say anything.

Had it been Gail Goestenkors pulling this, that would have been different because Candace was VERY close to going to Duke, and visited her to see Sheldon many times while at Tennessee.

That is what I was also thinking. If that is the case, I could see Westbrook and Davis(if she decides on Tennessee) get some major minutes especially later in the year once accustomed to the system.

I would take Dixon in a minute. Lets remember the only other 5 start we got from Memphis was the Avant girl. Pat offered her when she was in the eighth grade. She tore it up in Mempho but was involved in very serious auto accident and really never reached where she had been She eventually left LVs and transferred to Rhodes and my understanding down here is she has hopes of being a coach. I really don't remember another kid we got from this area for the LVs. I know for a fact that the Davis kid I believe was her name never want to be a LV but she went to Baylor and did well. Just hard for UT to get great players out of this area.

For her not to have committed somewhere I'm starting to wonder if she will bring to much drama to the table. AKA Jalen Hurd. Maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully I'm wrong. But we don't need a distraction like that. And maybe she just has to many people in her ear trying to get her to do what they want. Who knows. But I hope we get some news soon either way.
No one has to live with this decision but her. Whether she choose UT or not she has earned that right to take her time and decide.

It is bizarre that next year we can claim that we've had 5 players from the state of Oregon be Lady Vols--4 at the same time, but we've had only one player from Memphis in the history of the program.

It's not hard, the UT staff just don't put in enough work down here. I am from this area and have seen a few coaches like Carolyn Peck when she was at Florida. Ole miss and miss. St just to name a few. There's a lot of talent this way especially guards who can flat out ball. The fault also fall on the parents and coaches because they dont put the kids out there like they should

I agree. If she were my daughter, and she is not, I would advise her if she is truly torn, to contact each head coach on the list of schools. I would tell her to ask each coach if I fail to sign with they at this time would they still want me after I figure my life out. If anyone of them stated yes I would get on the phone as well and have them tell me the same thing. If they say they cannot wait then I would move on from them unless they were my leader. This if I am truly torn up about this. No bigger decision in her life to date probably and should be the right one. Just my humble opinion!!!

Well in the past since the LVs were national recruiters and the other schools you mentioned were really not considered to be. Now since Holly is where Pat once was I was hoping they would hit the area a little harder. The University as a whole tends to forget this end of the state and the public schools are not thought highly of especially the city system. Don't disagree with you at all!!

I just remembered that there was a Becky Clark out of Memphis who played maybe a year in the early 80s. IIRC she might have had a hearing disability...

I have lived and coached here since 1976. I do not remember that name but there are times my wife says I don't remember anything!!

I think it's been two but it could've been more if they looked this way. They recruited Ashley Shields but didn't have the grades. When Coach Peck was at Florida she was attending a game in Memphis at craigmont to watch danielle ballard who she had already signed. They played a school out of Jackson tn and shea brooks put on a show and thats how she ended up at florida but was going to attend a junior college before hand. And we all know how good she was for that florida team. I am trying my best to get jamirah shutes' parents to send in a tape out of haywood county. This girl is the real deal on both ends of the floor. I even mentioned her name on elzy's page when she was at Tennessee. They just don't look this way as much as they should.

Surely Pat recruited Regina Street in the early 80s. She would have been in the same class as Sheila Collins and Tammy Larkey. I think everyone wanted her.

If I remember correctly there was a young lady from Briarcrest a few years back that maybe ended up at Vandy. I think Pat had shown interest in her as well but I don't know how much. Grades should not been a factor for her but again with the national search we do I am sure she found someone she thought better. Maybe Coach Reeves needs to get a heads up!!

I just see that for player to be early signee that they must submit their paperwork by 2 weeks after the final day of early signing period. So Rennia Davis can still be sign with us during the early sign period if she make up her mind within 2 weeks.

Rennia Davis has signed paperwork, but has asked the school of choice to not announce it as she will likely announce on Sunday.

Whether the schools she didn't sign with keep it under wraps is another story.

Thanks Raider. Just hope it was with us but wherever she decides has a good one and she truly seemed to struggle.
