Lady Vols Recruiting Info

If my time zone calculations are correct, Westbrook and Walker announce within 1 hour of each other on the 10th of November.

Recruiting is not about working hard, people, though, sure, that helps. It's about being relevant and being a contender--and we haven't been a serious contender in more than a decade. It's also about having a staff with some bona fide chops and /charisma/. Our head coach and our staff have neither chops nor charisma, to be completely candid. In the end your head coach must close the deal--and Warlick is poor at closing the deal. Notre Dame has an outstanding coach and has been the second best program in the country for several years. We can sell our pedigree--but players make decisions based on the here and the now--who's the coach, what's the state of the program, etc. I can't see us winning many recruiting battles against schools like ND, Stanford, etc.--not with this staff--and indeed, we've been losing recruiting battles for years to schools that have no pedigree at all, such as louisville, south carolina and others. That we're getting out-recruited by Louisville--and have been for several years--speaks volumes about the state of the program. Why? You need dynamism at the top. We don't have it.

As long as Warlick and Co. are here, they'd better get serious about finding and recruiting the best B/B+ level talent in the country, because, with few exceptions, we're not beating A-level programs for A-level talent. It was that kind of delusional thinking that cost us last year--when we, unforgivably, signed only 1 prospect--and that came late. The country is full of good players who are a bit under the radar and do not end up at the top programs--we see them on every team. This staff needs to find and recruit some of them along with the top prospects, so we're not stuck with no depth when we get an injury or two. We need to be realistic.Who's going to score for this team when DD leaves?

Some of what say certainly has merit, but you overstate things as well. For example, The LV were certainly relevant in 2007 and 2008, which is within the 10-year window of which you speak. Secondly, Hayes and KK are a pretty good haul thus far, and that certainly bodes well for LV recruiting going forward.

But Reaves is an amazing recruiter....

Good recruiting coordinators put you in contention for a prospect--they set up the sale. The head coach must close the deal--that's true in every sport. It's also about the state of the program compared to other programs under consideration.

You know what I like about you. You have been saying the same things for a long time... that's rare on a WCBB forum. People like to flip flop as it suits them.

Armchair, I agree getting some 'B' talent lower in the top 100. I was just looking and there are 6 or more ladies with no schools listed. Maybe they have academic scholarships or not interested in college ball.

Scary thought, but we could end up with 6 players after next year. Plenty of talent in class of 2018, but how many will commit to UT?

It was pretty electric at Mary Louis Academy today. S/w Danielle Patterson and asked her how did she come to her decision on Notre Dame. She said: DURING MY NOTRE DAME VISIT, I FELT AT HOME. I FELT VERY COMFORTABLE HANGING WITH ALL THE PLAYERS, I REALLY LIKE THE COACHES AND THE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM THAT THEY RUN FITS MY GAME. WHAT ALSO FACTORED INTO MY DECISION WAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO WIN A NATIONAL TITLE.

Well, there's nothing we can argue about that. Notre Dame has had our number the last 4 years and I can see them being the team to beat if UConn doesn't add any game changers the next few classes. So kudos to her, the writing was on the wall. I wouldn't be surprised if she verbaled to Notre Dame during her visit and just waited to announce. All we can do as Lady Vols fans is move on. Congrats to Patterson.

What is everyone moaning and complaining about. None of these young ladies are GAME CHANGERS!!!! They are good players that will make their teams better that's it!! We have verbals from Hayes and KK because the want to play for TN!!! Out of all the recruits, Hayes was the must get, and we got a verbal from her. Has anyone noticed a pattern?? Pattersons last visit was ND she committed, Dodson, Stanford she committed, Williams, South Carolina she committed, Williams, Duke she committed, Hayes TN she committed. They schedule their visits, with there last visit being, if you swoop me away I am all yours. Lets hope we get one of the three, that's still on our board, Westbrook, Onyenwere or Davis (hint, hint) Davis visits TN last. Coaches must be closers, if that recruit has that college as her last visit. We didn't seal the deal with Evans, I hope that doesn't happen with Davis. I am very happy with the two commits we have, looking forward to 2018, 7 of the top 60 recruits reside in TN, according to the ESPN,s rankings.

The biggest winner of the Danielle Patterson commitment (besides ND) might be Cheridene Green. With Nunn out, I imagine she'll see a lot of time on court in 2017-18. Tennessee will still have plenty of size, especially if Russell stays for her final year of eligibility.

Is Davis more of a 4 or a 3? And is her visit this weekend actually confirmed?

Davis visit confirmed, on campus Friday. Davis is 6'2 and is a wing for sure. She shoots lights out, and can dribble drive. She is a true 3. Think of Shekina Stricklen but faster and more athletic.
I am still sticking to my original statement, we really just need one more recruit. Two isn't enough. Anything more than 3 would be amazing. We need 3 though!

I don't see the stark pattern that you see. Dodson visited Notre Dame last and still committed to Stanford. L. Williams had other visits scheduled yet cancelled them and committed to South Carolina. Evans visited Tennessee last and still committed to Louisville. KK visited Florida State after Tennessee but still committed to the LV's. Asia Durr committed after her visit to Louisville a couple years ago without completing her scheduled visits to her other finalists. Joyner Holmes never completed her scheduled visits but committed to Texas without completing them. Megan Walker visited Notre Dame last and Evina Westbrook visited Maryland last. Do you think that their fate is sealed?

We were also Michaela O's last visit as well! If we can land both great if not still great! I am happy with KK and Hayes as well and I think Hayes as you stated was the must have, she will help us land future recruits

.

Really? Fire coaches?
Maybe Danielle just read this board and saw her favorite Candace Parker get attacked during the playoffs and figured if TN fans turn on the player that was huge on getting us the last 2 championships then why would I go there?

Honestly I am sure she had good reasons to pick Notre Dame that aren't dramatic and there is no reason to blame anyone.

Relax - that's just Gule!!! He always likes to stir the pot and wants to fire the entire LV staff :loco:

It's easier than admitting the irony of how Reaves, supposedly an upgrade on the coaching staff, lost a recruit in her own backyard to the coach she replaced...

So you would rather have McKinney instead of KK and Hayes? You can't throw Reaves under the bus for not getting the Knoxville kid when she get two much higher ranked players both within 4 hours drive of Knoxville. College choices are better these days for women but everyone is going to speculate on where they think someone is going to go based on no information at all. Because Patterson loves Candace Parker she is TN's to lose .... no that just means she likes Candace and we were high on her list - made it to the final choice. Not us, so on to the next one!!!

Carson Newman leading North Carolina 43-39 at halftime in women's exhibition game! CN has basically led the whole first half.

Here's what I hear.

The sky is falling.
Our coaches suck and can't recruit.
The net was too wide
The 2 players we have aren't good enough
This class is a failure.
Does that sum it up?

My response:

My god our fans really need to chill out. TN is fine, has two excellent recruits, and will be fine

I would rather have had Patterson than all of them. It's one thing to beat out Ole Miss and FSU for recruits, but Patterson was the first true litmus test for Reaves.... a player ND clearly wanted badly.

And I'm not throwing Reaves under the bus anymore than Elzy was thrown under the bus after last season. With all the love Reaves gets on this forum as some kind of ace recruiter, I see no evidence she is any better than Elzy (especially if she only ends up with these two). Maybe the "recruiting coordinator" isn't the problem...
