Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Hayes and Patterson seem to be our best bets. I don't even see Harrison on the Hoopgurlz list doesn't mean were not after her. Boothe is down to three schools but seems Maryland is the favorite. You wonder how that happened when they get about a 1000 people to most of their games. Westbrook has a huge list as does Dodson and Carter. I still think LSU will swoop in and grab Ursin. Don't know a thing about Williams.

Hopefully we have a few more that were after as I only see two solid chances in that group and Hayes still has a large list as well.

We can't allow Hayes to get away from us. She's another in-state player like Dangerfield did this 2016 class going to UConn.

We must get her to sign with us. She's the top recruit of the bunch we're going after so we can't let her go elsewhere. We need her here pretty badly.

The girl from Fulton High School is another we need to get here. Her name is escaping me right now. She's not top 60 in the ESPN list for 2017 but I did see she was top 100 from I believed it was 247 Sports.

I can't remember her name right now for the life of me. She's not on the list above posted by chris89128 but we need to really go after her too. I just can't stand these in-state recruits not coming to Knoxville. I'm talking about the top ones & not all of them of course.

You're thinking of Keondra McKinney. She is currently ranked 40 overall and the number 9 forward by Prospect Nation.

The question on McKinney may depend on a couple of other forwards under consideration.

Yeah, that's her name. We still should go after her regardless of other forwards. She's another in-state & local recruit we don't need to allow to go elsewhere.

I really hope we have a ligitimate shot at 2017 top talent. Last year this time we were all excited about the possibilities, and we know what happened to that bubble. I certainly hope for much better results. I am still concerned about Holly and her crew's ability to seal the deal.

This is another reason why it should be really easy to recruit here and to compete for national titles.

You really have to try hard to screw it up because most programs just don't have any interest at all.

Boothe has 4 schools now... Tennessee is most definitely back on that list and Reaves is a big part of that.

Dorie holds an offer... happened about a week after Elzy left the program and she is a main target.

From what I gather we are holding strong with at least 5-7 players as of now and 3 of them very strong. Dodson's recruitment has been very quiet but I have heard all along that interest is strong from both sides.

2018 looks promising as of right now with Charli Collier and Christyn Williams showing high interest in Tennessee. 2018 also may be a year we see more guard targets whereas 2017 seems to be more wing/forward/post targets. I know Sidney Cooks, 6'4 out of Kenosha, WI and top 10 on many lists, hold an offer but I haven't heard how high her interest is. She did have a home visit with the staff not too long ago.

Dang we need to change South Carolina's name to transfer U. Alexis Jennings will be transferring there another big win for SC with the transfer players.
SC is the clear leader in the SEC these days they have definitely took over as the top team in the conference with everybody else playing for second.

Her transfer answers a frequently asked question - transferring from one SEC school to another with only ONE year to sit out. It is possible if the coach allows it.

Remember that no matter how many transfers they get, only five can be on the court at once. Now as to why all these transfers are happening,it's anyone's guess. Unhappy at one place, just go to another. No loyalty is involved by players in many instances. Something happened at Kentucky to cause the exodus, but transfers are happening in other places also. Just a sign of the times,I guess.

South Carolina chosen because of two words: Dawn Staley

Rellah Boothe makes 18U national team | Ocala.com

Tennessee makes her top 5 and word is it is because of the new Assistant Coach. I guess Booths will make an official in the Fall. Many believe she is headed to Maryland no matter what. You never know though because many had Lauren Cox headed to Notre Dame, but she signed with Baylor. We shall see.

I would say its these 2 words (3 if you are technical): In-State Talent. She got Coates (now a rising SR center 6'4") and Aja Wilson (now a rising JR forward 6'5") both from SC to go to SC along with in state players that just graduated Sessions and Dozier. Plus Tiffany Mitchell was from NC.

But, these girls are still only going there because of Dawn Staley being head coach. Before she came there South Carolina never saw these type recruits even consider going there. It's Dawn Staley as the main reason!

Medina Dixon signed there out of H.S. Brantley Southers played there. So did Beth Hunt, Marsi McCallister, Evelyn Johnson (Magic's sister), Sheila Foster, Phillicia Allen, Marsha Williams, Schonna Banner, Lisa Diaz, Teresa Geter, Shannon Johnson, Jocelyn Penn, Martha Parker, Shaun Gortman, etc.

All of these were coveted prospects, many earning AA honors in H.S.

Staley didn't start the fire. She actually had a nice bit of history to spin off of.

There may have been some decent players came thru the South Carolina program but none of those players resulted in SEC or national title contending teams. It wasn't until Dawn Staley got there in which that culture changed into a regularly contending team year in & out.

That's what you call a pure coach. After Geno, Staley is the 2nd best women's college coach in my opinion. You can't replace her coaching & that's why more & more talented players are signing there & wanting to play for South Carolina. They see the difference she makes.

So, yes Staley did start the fire. The fire of winning & becoming regular SEC & national title contenders. That type of fire wasn't there before Staley.

After Geno, how can you not choose Muffet as the 2nd best coach?

She started at SC the fall of 2008 and her success really started when she added Tiffany Mitchell from North Carolina came in 2012, Coates in 2013 then they added #1 player in the country Wilson in 2014. With those 3 they were #2 in the country the last two years but still have not made a final four. But those girls are in state, she and her staff have the best access, etc. Look at the teams in Texas keeping the bulk of their talent at home. The only coach that has been able to get the top players from all over the country consistently has been Geno. If the 2017 and 2018 recruiting classes see Tennessee as a place they can go to put them over the top and bring championships back to Tennessee then you will see them sign here. If Diamond & Mercedes stay the next two years and don't leave early, the Lady Vols are only two to three top 20 players away from sustained success because those two will win a championship

I'm talking about right now as a head coach. Past years in the 1990's-2000's yes probably Muffet but in recent years Staley has become a better coach than Muffet in my opinion.

Muffet has also been a head coach much longer than Staley. By 2022 or so, Staley won't be too far behind in wins & other accomplishments. I just think she's a better coach right now than Muffet. I wouldn't have said that a few years ago.
